Coming into a crucial part of the Season..

If we are in touching distance of fourth, the board have to spend.. surely ???

Regardless of how close to 4th we are, we need players. This squad is desperately lacking.

3rd is up for grabs this season.

The is pretty poor this year, with right signings in Jan we could push up the table.

I agree, but if we are in touching distance of 4th, it has to convince the board to spend that little bit extra to make that push..

No doubt the teams around us will also strengthen in January...

This is a 5 year plan 4th is beyond our years, lets concentrate on beating the drop

Jesus just looked.. its only our 4th league win of the season..

4pts off 4th after our 4th win of the season...

Shite league this season... 😉

@thisisanfield: LFC next 5 fixtures: Villa (h), Fulham (h), Stoke (a), QPR (a), Sunderland (h). Four points off fourth place at moment. Interesting.

Shit thread.
We've won four league games.
We're not good enough to qualify for the CL.
Lets just focus on winning a few games first.

Actually that's our 5th win. It's a very even league this season in the middle pack beyond the top 2 or 3 teams. Everton at 4th place now has only won 6 games, though they share the spot with Spurs and West Brom which have won 8 each. 4 points are all that separates the teams in the 4th and 12th places. The pack's order could shuffle itself and turn on its head in a week or two given how close the teams are to each other.

It's very unlikely but far from impossible.

Not this season when the likes of Arsenal and Spurs are inconsistent, Everton will have a bad spell and even Chelsea aren't guaranteed a top 4 place either.

After which we have

Man Utd (a)
Norwich (h)
Arsenal (a)
Man City (a)

How about we all suspend the "4th is possible" talk until after the City game?

Tal is right, let's stop having faith because that's not what being a fan is about.

One game at a time.

But 4 points of 4th is decent after the start we've had. Lets hope our good form continues.
A couple of signings in january and we're looking good.

We'd probably be doing ourselves more harm than good by spending with fourth in mind in January, we've been doing it for three years now and we're getting further away

Obviously we need to spend wisely - whatever Rodgers feels are our weakest areas need to be addressed, and hopefully intelligently. We've got great players in January, and one massive dud. Let's continue the great players streak.

We cannot spend with the next 6 months in mind. We have to spend with the next 6 years in mind.

I hope we get it right.

I'm torn on that. If we could spend £20m on some 30 yr old striker and be guaranteed that we'd get CL in return, then I'd go for it, but of course there are no guarantees.

I think on balance the possibility of getting 4th (personally I can't see it, but still) is rewarding enough to justify at least bringing forward any planned signings, and probably throwing an extra £5m or so at it as well.

I think getting back in there is *that* important.

getting back there is very important, however we need to make sure we can maintain ourselves when back

I think a solid (but not spectacular) striker like Bent, combined with some more 21/22 year olds would be a very good window
