4-3-3 and the high line should be binned?

Trent is no longer running down the lines, he seems to be playing like deep lying playmaker. Fab and Hendo has seen their performances drop, Is it a case we now put more bods in MF and play the one or two players upfront?

we should play 3-4-1-2 imo
(below takes into account vvd injury)

matip nat konate

taa hendo fabs robbo

elliot

salah darwin

Never seen as Trent as someone who overlaps beyond Salah to the byline and cross type full back in the way we Robbo do a lot.

He gets up in support but lingers just behind Mo and at times maybe slightly inside to put balls in, and seeing him use his weaker foot more.

Klopp hasn't really changed much ever with tactics, sure he changes personnel, makes counter subs and occasionally a slight tweak in formation.

But we've pretty much played under the same defensive/attacking tactics of highline/counter press throughout his time, it's a thrilling way to play for sure....we just don't have it in ourselves to carry that out anymore personnel wise.

Time to give Nunez and Elliott a rest, and get them coming off the bench. Will Trent cover all that space on the right? The guy hardly gets out of 3rd gear these days

This post is almost completely incorrect. Edit and try again.

So you think Trent attacks in the same way Robbo does, always on the overlap?

You think Klopp sets out differently if we were playing at home to Leicester than if we were playing away to Villa or Brentford? Tell me how we set up differently?

We are a high line, counter pressing team. How you can say that's completely incorrect is beyond belief.

He used to, he isn't anymore because of the vulnerability it causes, plus the fact that Trent has more in his locker. It's a big loss that he doesn't get to the byline for that driving cross.

Wait… so now it’s Trent’s fault for not getting high enough up the pitch more often!!!

Annnnnd - we need to drop the high line back, because having our defence play deeper will help Trent get further forward…. From his deeper position!!!

His in MF, so why wouldn't he go further upfield? With the likes of Nat and Matip in defence, why would you even think of playing a high line?

Well - we could be Spurs if you want, I suppose.

Don’t think our tactical set-up should be binned, but perhaps it should be Binnied - as we know here at SCM, everything is better that way.

Was simply pointing out that our full backs support the attack very differently.

Does Trent have more in his locker? I'd say he's capable of delivering better quality in forward areas but Robbo by far is the better all round player.

What’s our possession stats look like in comparison and what are the predominant tactics employed against us and whether that’s changed - would be my first questions.

I’d like to understand why.

I think we had 73% possession vs Brentford - a lot of good it did us. Sterile possession + vulnerability on transitions = recipe for disaster.

There's a clear trend with our possession....because we're so useless with the ball the longer we have it. The more possession we have the more chance we have to lose the game.

69% v Leeds - Lost
71% v Utd - Lost
73% v Brentford - Lost
76% v Forest - Lost

Then when we have 35% v City we fucking win, 52% v Villa we fucking win, 56% v Leicester we fucking win, 54% v Spurs we fucking win.

Our top data guys have left or are leaving. Edwards and Ward (less than a year into the job).

That’s enough data to tell you how screwed this club is.

I dunno why some of you even bother anymore with the charts, tactics and everything.

Data tells you the problem which btw the whole world already know what they are. But we DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO SOLVE THEM.

it’s pretty obvious innit with Ward leaving.

The main focus now is new owners and/or investment. This season (or next) is a write off. Just enjoy any win we get and if we’re lucky we might see the donkey score a goal or two. No point stressing ourselves out. Enjoy the game for what’s left of it. Until we get new owners.

Er, no

The 4 teams we lost to are shit, know they’re shit and parked the bus to counter attack. We’re shit in MF and loose in defence so they win.

The 4 teams we beat decided to attack us so we became more focused and wasn’t so loose in defence.

All this is what on what teams do to us, not what we do to them....which is hold the ball around for far too long and knock it around side to side and back for 90 mins.

We should focus on changing up our tactics against shit teams so we can actually beat a few of them.

You mean to tell me it's sheer coincidence those games where we've averaged 70%+ possession we've lost?

Sheer coincidence last season the only 2 games we lost were as a result of us having 65-70% possession?

If we give up possession, game opens up for us and we're not constantly looking a way through a low block 10 man defence constantly.

I don’t necessarily think we need to drop both.
They are mutually exclusive.
Pre 2019, we didn’t used to play high line. It was introduced in 2019-20 season along with VAR. I say drop highline for rest of this season and see how we do.

Month #3 of advocating 3 at the back and freeing TAA (and Robertson).

Problem is now we only have 4 fit CBs, meaning either Nat or Gomez works with Ibou and Matip.

I'm not entirely happy with that, considering how injury prone 3 of the 4 are

Lol I was chatting with someone today about this.. Think things are bad? Just wait!

We're most vulnerable when we our "possession" football is turned over usually with both Hendo and Harvey/Thiago both pushed far too high and well out of sync.....leaving huge gaps behind them and thus leaving Fab and defence exposed. (a defence that usually Trent will be out the picture of)

Well look on the bright side - if there is another CB injury crisis, it’s not as if playing Fabs or Hendo at the back will make the midfield any worse this time round.
