Around 10 hours later, those suspected of carrying out the attack were in the away end for the Liverpool v Arsenal Premier League game when they were arrested.

“She rang us and when we got to her she was in shock at what she had seen.
Mr Cowan said rumours a witness filmed the incident on a mobile phone instead of helping were “beyond belief”.

Mr Smith was taken by ambulance to the Royal but died a short time later.
Police said they know both victim and attackers had been in Bar Bodega, on Colquitt Street, before the violence.

Detectives believe there was “an altercation” inside that resulted in people being thrown out by door staff.

The fatal attack happened close to the neighbouring Chameleon bar where flowers were laid in tribute to Mr Smith.

Police are still appealing for anyone who was in Bodega to come forward.

A Home Office post-mortem set to take place yesterday had to be delayed and was set to be completed today to confirm the cause of death.

Police have said they do not believe the incident was football or gang-related or that Mr Smith knew his attackers.

Anyone with information should ring police on 0151 777 4065 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Joseph Walker, 27, of Tintail Way, Heyes, Middlesex; Mark McEwen, 39, of Angel Park Garden, Brixton and Michael Samuels, 39, of St James’ Road, Croydon were due to appear at Liverpool magistrates court this morning charged with Mr Smith’s murder.

A fourth man, aged 33, was released by police and told he would face no further action.

I remember a few years ago that Arsenal bought a "firm" to Liverpool looking for trouble. I think it was the FA Cup tie we lost to them the same season we got beat in the League Cup by them.

In fact of all the Prem clubs, I've experienced more issues relating to Arsenal fans than that of any other club. In my experience they have more than a fair few idiots following them.

That Bar Bodega is my cousin's gaff. It's dead good. Ace tapas and he does these berry shots in chocolate shot glasses, so you don't know whether to drink it and then eat the thing or try shoving the whole thing in your gob in one go, risking a massive mess. He's got a season ticket but was in Spain this weekend, thus missing out on a lengthy police investigation and seeing us get fucked 2-0. Lucky bastard.

Does he own Tapas Tapas too ? Went there last week and the service was shite. Food was good though when it finally came.

Not good. It's a scary thought knowing someone went out for a night and ended up getting battered to death. How people can do this i'll never know.
