you said 2 wingers
I said two wide midfielders as kuyt patently isn't a winger but is a shoe-in to start.

I don't really give a fuck who scores as long as we win a trophy this season. Even the Carling Cup would be decent. 2006 seems like too long ago.

and are you counting Benayoun on Saturday as a "wide midfielder"?
if yossi is going to become a regular starter then you have to imagine he will play wide or gerrard's role will have to change.
True, but those 3 goals didn't come as a wide midifelder.
semantics, seeing as kuyt isn't a 'true' wide midfielder either.

Who said that it's impossible?

And in our formation it's difficult to ascertain who is a 'midfielder' in the traditional sense. It's like Ronaldo technically being a 'winger' - speaking about it like there's key divides between midfield and attack is outdated nonsense.

Kuyt, Gerrard and Yossi are more than capable of scoring 1 in 4.

Midfielder, striker, winger....crap i don't care where the goals are coming from, if five of our player can hit double figures then we are in great shape.

Unfortunately we only have 4 i think.

Torres,
Gerrard,
Kuyt,
Yossi

Johnson has potential to cross 5 goals comfortably but im not sure if he is going to score more than 10.

So there you have it, we seriously need to improve on Riera and Babel....or they have to improve.

I don't think any team will get FOUR players in double figures in the league, any team that does that will almost certainly win the league.

Does any team have 4 players or more who scored more than 10 league goals last season? Any season in the last decade? I'm not sure there is.

United with the midfield of Giggs, Keane, Scholes and Beckham surely yielded 10 goals from 2 of those 4.

Throw in 2 strikers and then that would be four players.

OK, so I went and checked:
In 17 full premeiership seasons they only had one season in which 4 players scored double figures (95/96).
They had 6 seasons with 3 players scoring 10 league goals or more: 93/94, 94/95, 98/99, 99/00, 01/02 and 07/08

Since they won the league 11 times during that time it looks like 3 players with double figures are enough while you can also win it with 2 double figurers, althoguh you'd probably need 2-3 players with 7-9 goals too.

(Haven't checked for Chelsea and Arsenal...

interesting!

It looks like we have the goals in the starting 11 to be league champions. If only we had some strength in the bench...

We need a bit of luck to stay in the title fight till January. I hope Rafa adds one more talent as soon as he gets a chance.

I could see us bring the first team to get 4 players on double figures and still not win it lol just our luck

We scored 9 more goals than United last year and 8 more than Chelsea.

It means little in isolation.

But a large chunk of our goals came in bursts starting in March, and by then too many points had been lost.

You cannot count 3 goals scored from a player in the hole as a wide man.

So far we have a toal of what 2 goals from out wide in Kuyt.

That's quite an interesting stat isn't it? I mean out of the three teams, we're probably viewed as the least attacking/goal threatening.

Why can't we just say if, besides Torres and Gerrard, will there be 2 other Liverpool players scoring more than 10 goals (in the league? overall?)?

we still have the aquaman. he seems capable of scoring 10 or at least near? ???

How many goals will Babel get Spidey?
still think we can't do?
Your last post on this stated it was the absolute minimum we should expect from a winger, I said that was ridiculous on the grounds that no out and out wingers did it last season.

It's clearly possible, but to expect it is asking a lot.

I'm pretty sure I said wide midfielder as kuyt is clearly first choice at right midfield.
maybe alot to 'expect' but there you are.

I don't get this. Why do we seriosly need to improve ? Were we not top scorers in the league last season - with Torres & Gerrard missing for big chunks of the year ? And indeed if memoery serves me correct and without going back to check there or therabouts for the last 3 seasons ?

We already have the players to score the goals - it's about making sure that the balance in each game is right between goals scored and goals conceded !
