Liverpool are pressing ahead with a £20million swoop for Belgian strike sensation Romelu Lukaku – despite Roy Hodgson being given the boot.

Kop talent-hunter Damien Comolli is understood to have approached Anderlecht about the 17-year-old striker who already has eight caps for his country.

The 6ft 3in powerhouse hit 15 goals in 33 league games for Anerlecht last season despite starting on the bench for 12 of his appearances.

His performances for the Belgian club have attracted scouts from all of Europe’s top clubs including both Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs as well as the giants from Spain and Italy.

But it’s Liverpool who are pulling out all the stops to sign him – with a £15m initial fee the starting point rising to more than £20m with performance-related add-ons.

That’s big money for Liverpool’s new owner John Henry, head of the Fenway Sports Group, but the Anfield hierarchy recognise they have to start revamping their squad – and fast.

That’s why Comolli has been busy identifying the brightest young stars in Europe and Lukaku now tops his list after Liverpool were told they have little chance of signing his international team mate Eden Hazard from Lille.

Belgian winger Hazard, 19, is wanted by Sir Alex Ferguson as well as Jose Mourinho and sources in France say he’s likely to head for United or Real Madrid rather than risk a move to a club in transition.

Another player on Liverpool’s radar is Valencia’s Pablo Hernandez.

The People revealed back in October that the Spanish midfielder was a target and the Anfield club have now enquired about his availability.

Despite David Silva’s exit to Manchester City in the summer, 25-year-old Hernandez has failed to pin down a regular starting place and has admitted he will look for a move if coach Unai Emeri doesn’t give him a decent run. Tottenham have also expressed an interest in the £15m-rated star.

Lukaku just reminds me of Heskey unfortunately.

Except the goalscoring bit! 🙂

He cuts an imposing figure for his age that's sure enough. As for goalscoring, Heskey actually did that once as well.

I'm only going by this compilation but it just shouts out Heskey to me. Atlhough Heskey with a bit of confidence could have been a player

Romelu Lukaku - Compilation

In my eyes we need strength up top, so someone who could be a stonger, more clinical heskey, isn't a bad idea

it won't happen anyways - even though i would love to see him here - because his old man said he'd stay at anderlecht until he finishes hs (hope i'm wrong obviously)

i like the way we've all glazed over hernandez in this article. I don't know too much about him. Would he be a good buy?

He's similar to Silva - skillful attacking mid, but I don't think he's really 'built' for our league if he's not in a team like the Gooners.

pablo is the real deal has pace like real speed and skill and is better than juan mata would be excited if we signed him.

Lukaku would be a wonderful signing as partner/back-up to Torres.

He's surely the closest thing to a potential Drogba there is out there.

Hopefully thisall shite. £15-20m for a player from the belgium league and his on the bench a lot 9not forgetting he is only 17). similarities to Heskey as well. no thanks

Re: £20m Lukaku & £15m Pablo Hernandez?

One of the most highly sought talents in the world, banging in goals left right and centre, strong, good touch, quick.

People would think we were being linked to wayne routledge....again

It's not the best youtube video ever...

Amazing that he is only 17.

i think his physical ability would cause HUGEEEEEEE problems in the prem.. It would certainly allow Torres more time and space and it would likely force the larger more physical CB to focus on Lukaku keeping Torres from being bullied game in and game out.

I havent seen much of Lukaku but his finishing certainly doesnt look that good.... but.. his atheticism alone would improve our attaching threat.

17!? I'm sorry, but that man in the video compilation above is at least 25.
He is fucking enormous for his age...

No idea re: Hernandez
He skinned Evra (made him look school grade defender one of the times) in their frist CL match they had,
Not seen that much of him though.
He seems to have flair/technical ability and not a bad cross.
Fairly quick too.

Hernandez is class Id love him to come here, hed be like Maxi except really good

As for Lukaku, he is an absolute monster for 17 years of age, I remember when Rooney came through and people were calling him a man child but Rooney looks like a toddler next to him. As for his ability well you dont expect a 17 year old to be a consistent clinical finisher, that comes with time and experience, he will be an absoulte powerhouse of a central forward though. If a 17 year old in the championship scored 15 goals in 30 odd games he would cost $15m easily so why not a guy playing in the top league in his country who has all the physical attributes needed to succeed in this league

Really ? Is that why he can't get a starting place in the Valencia team ?

Wouldn't say he's better than Juan Mata, afterall, they play on different flanks/sides.

Was a regular in the XI last season. Hasn't featured as much this season due to the good form of Joaquin.

For a 17 yo, he's mighty impressive and yet, ppl are already labeling him (unfairly) as the new Heskey.

For goodness sake, have a bit of perspective. He's only 17.

Stevie G at 17 was far the finished article but everyone could see he had bags of talent.

I'm not saying he's the new Heskey, just reminds me of him. You're right he's only a baby too. And I've said Heskey with confidence and self belief would have been a tremendous player.

No offence was taken mate thought it was fair point. If Lukaku improves he could be awesome.
