Ouch!

The first bit's in Turkish and one of my favourite brekkie/lunch places in town is Turkish-run, so I asked the manager there and he said the "sizlikten" bit had something to do with lack of use or inactivity. Sounds to me like Skittles basically returned from his hols unfit for selection, in the Atalanta manager's opinion anyhow.

Trabzonspor’s young goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir is being tracked by Liverpool, according to the player’s agent Erdi Kirkpinar.

[article]Liverpool scouted Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir against Fenerbahce on Sunday in Turkey, according to a report.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been linked with Liverpool earlier in the summer and Turkish-Football report that Liverpool scouts were in attendance at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

Apparently the Reds “have been monitoring goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir since last season” as they look for a long-term replacement for Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet left for Club Brugge last month with Adrian, 32, arriving the same day on a free transfer. And the Spaniard has been thrust into the action after the injury to Alisson Becker in the opening game of the season against Norwich.

Liverpool though are understood to be looking for long-term cover for Alisson, with Loris Karius currently on loan at Besiktas with the Super Lig club holding an option to buy.

The report claims Cakir “made eight saves over the course of the 90 minutes including several incredible stops” and was named man of the match.

In May the player’s agent Erdi Kirkpinar confirmed there was interest from several major European clubs, including Liverpool.

Speaking to Turkish publication Ajansspor, he said: “Every team have scouts and some of them are following Ugurcan’s matches. Schalke haven’t made an official offer for him.

“I know Lille and Schalke are following him. Liverpool are also interested in him. Liverpool officials have talked with us, we had some contacts, but no official offer has come from them.”

In July Haber Global’s Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, as cited by Sport Witness, claimed that Liverpool, Lille and Celta Vigo are also said to be interested in the player.

Cakir, who is 1.91m and a Turkey international, has conceded three goals in three games this term and is under contract at Trabzonspor until June 2021.

Seems like he had his heart set on Madrid and thus rejected all offers from England, the deadline has passed and Real didn't make an offer. I'm glad he at least didn't go to Spurs or United, although anything is possible next summer.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Dutch midfielder Donny Van de Beek is set to stay at the club, despite strong interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Van de Beek has been a key figure for Ajax, helping them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season. The 22-year-old has also made a flying start to the 2019/20 Eredivisie campaign, scoring twice and assisting twice in two matches.
process

The Dutch midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Los Blancos, as Zinedine Zidane searched for reinforcement in the centre of the park. However, in a report by De Telegraaf, Ajax manager Ten Hag revealed that the player will remain at the club.

"Donny van de Beek is playing for Ajax this year," claimed the manager.

To add to this, Zidane has backed up Ten Hag's claims by saying: "No one else comes."

Zidane seemingly has his heart set on Paul Pogba, who he believes is the man Real Madrid need. However, following the close of the English transfer window, it now appears unlikely that Manchester United would be willing to let go of their star midfielder.
As a result, there is a belief that the Spanish side know what the asking price is for Van de Beek, and can therefore go back and land his signature if they wished to do so. But, Zidane is reluctant to splash the cash on a midfielder that isn't Pogba.

Ajax fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, having scraped through in a Champions League qualifier against PAOK. The club have already lost Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong to Juventus and Barcelona respectively, but it now appears as though Van de Beek will be staying put, for this season anyway.

Harry Wilson has 2 goals already, if he gets 10 goals by the end of the season with a handful of assists, should we have him back?

If he scores 10 goals with a handful of assists this season - being British, his valuation will be 150m. :)

Have to say, in the end Barca's board of directors did well to avoid putting together a woefully unbalanced squad due to various factions disagreeing on the targets. They made a token effort to get Neymar to somewhat appease Messi and co, but they'll be better off with just Griezmann and they managed to get rid of one of the misfits (Coutinho gone, Dembele still there for now).

It’s all become a bit of a mess, hasn’t it.

Don’t understand why they’re willing to bankrupt themselves and alienate half the team (well the likes of Rakitic and co) to bring Neymar back.

Great player when fit but 2 years older and increasingly out injured... not worth what PSG paid now.

Paying 200m+ to get back a player who had shit on the club, when you are already overloaded with players in his position....

To be honest I would have loved to see Barca fallen to those depths.

Neymar's departure from Barca did so much damage. The club did not see it coming and it destroyed their plans for the team.

They then wasted his transfer on Dembele & Coutinho.

Spent another 110m on bringing in Griezmann - for which they needed to take out a 30m loan to complete the transfer.

And amongst all that crazy expenditure they are funding the redevelopment of their stadium which will end up costing them close to 1B.

I'd be more likely to celebrate those sales revenues if we had actually invested any money into strengthening the squad and first team
Well, I agree, but I suppose if whoever we have our eyes on becomes available in January we should be well paced to make a move.

We've been down this road several times before as well. Klopp wont buy for the sake of it, if his preferred target isnt available. But there is absolutely nothing to celebrate that we're in the green this transfer window.

Looks like this will be the last time the transfer window closes in early August btw. Several clubs are pushing for a change given that the rest of Europe havent followed suit and closed early.

His "preferred target" being available is irrelevant, he didn't have any money to spend.

But yay! £50m in sales!

I understand the the frustration managers have with the English window closing sooner than the rest of Europe's leagues but why don't they just fix it by not allowing players to be sold after the deadline as well?

I know - it's great, we just love selling and making money - our owners have a slight addiction to this selling stuff after the last couple of seasons. But hey - who needs a creative midfielder these days.
