Yes, thats true. Its seems as Julian Ward will be in charge of the recruitment for the summer though.

"Hey Julian, before you clear your leave and fade off into retirement, could you finish off the big rebuild project we have that's supposed to last for the next ten years?"

"Fuck off! I've booked my tickets to Thailand. I'm going to c'mon in late, get drunk every afternoon in the office and get off early from now until then. Wife is excited as hell"

"Just one more time, you'll have plenty of time after that"

"What...No. Dude you guys didn't want me!"

"That's not true. We valued you. We just didn't have a budget then. And come on, Arthur Melo was a bit crap. Even you have to admit that"

"....what the...."

"C'mon man one last time. Do it for the fans."

"ughggg... okay fine. How much do I have to spend?"

"2 million pounds. And whatever you can get from selling the Ox."

Sell/Release

Fabinho - £30m

I might be wrong, and I'll hold my hands up if so, but I think he's completely cooked as a starting midfielder in the Premier League in any 4-3-3 set up. Selling him adds work onto our window, but for me it's a must.

Keita - (Free) I wouldn't be opposed to a one year extension given all the upheaval, but it doesn't look likely. His time is up

Chamberlain (Free) Yeah, bye.

Milner - (Free) Honourable discharge.

Matip £15M - I like Joel, but it's time to cut loose. Too injured, aging, questionable form. Good bye.

Phillips - £12M - Deserves to kick-start his career elsewhere. I rate him, but he's not a natural fit for high-line defending and needs to go to a side who play with a low bloc. He'll shine and surprise many, I think.

Kelleher - £15m - I'd sell and try and get first refusal to buy back. Deserves games and minutes. He's achieved all he can here.

--------------------------------------------------------

Money from sales: £72M
Transfer budget £150m

£222M spend.

As for purchasing, I don't know as I'm not bothering to watch football other than our games. Obviously Bellingham is the main target, but I can only support his purchase if there's enough money for the rest of the squad. Klopp is going after him big time, so lets assume we get him.

Bellingham is going to be £140M minimum, which would leave ~£82M to fund:

1 CB, 2CM, 1 reserve keeper. It's peanuts. I think we can hold off on a RW until a later window with the attacking options we have, plus Elliott, but I accept it needs addressing.

I would therefore be looking at Tielemans on a free, a DM £41M, CB £41M and promote a reserve keeper of find one a free.

--------------------

Maybe the transfer budget will be higher, but under FSG I'm guessing £150M will be as generous as it gets. Prove me wrong!

Can tell you now for free it'll be far less.

Go out to Madrid and finish below 6th we'll be lucky to have 15m before sales.

I was optimistic previously about the summer but I don’t see us signing the players we need unless we have the ownership change in some way another based on our Jan spend or lack of it. We clearly know what we needed and don’t believe we didn’t spend because of lack player availability. Don’t see that suddenly changing in the summer.

To get Bellingham we had to show intent and start the midfield re-bulid this window.
But we are dickheads.

A couple of things from various media reports. One: this morning Zidanny Murphy referred on the radio to us possibly fetching Rice in as well as Bellingham, and stood his ground when challenged on it. Two: I've seen mention of Gallagher in a couple of newspapers today.

On the subject of possible transfers from Chelsea, like others above I wouldn't be averse to signing Mount. He's been criticised by some for not specialising in any one particular aspect of midfield play, but I don't see that as a drawback in a MF provided his overall standard is good enough. On the contrary Klopp likes it in a midfielder, and including such players has worked well for us these last few years.

I'm not English, but a midfield of Bellingham, Rice and Mount would be very nice. Gallagher too.

If FSG are still here, then the best thing to do is to get Benfica's or Brighton's Head of Recruitment. Let him work with Klopp and the coaching staff and use his scouting network to identify talent.
I said that at the beginning of last summer, if we operate a sell to buy model but let players wind their contract down, and when you do buy players you pay above average agent fees, its not going to be sustainable.
Klopp has said he won't sell any players unless they ask to leave.
You do know that the lauded Brighton recruitment team left with Potter.

Caleta-car and ward prowse from Southampton if they drop? We’re going to have to go full TK maxx and dig through the shit to find something decent if we are to make up the numbers.

We better have some deals lined up or this summer is going to be a disaster.

Salah & Fabinho will be gone early. Wouldn’t surprise me if Diaz went too for big money.

No way are we stockpiling that many left sided forwards

It really is important to prioritize getting players out of the club first. We can have a lean squad next year because we're not going to be in Europe. And it's fine if it is quite lean and doesn't make champions league, if we don't get investment. We will have to endure some pain for a couple years to get anywhere at the rate we are willing to invest, and it starts with drawing a line under this team and starting again.

No please no.

Surely the time is right to go for generational talents Ryan Fraser and Adama Traore.

Trent will single handedly solve the midfield problem with his positional awareness, diligent tracking back and unparalleled pressing work rate.

David Lynch wrote a piece in This Is Anfield, where he said FSG are putting debt repayment ahead of transfers, which all points to an all outsale of the club, and if they're still in the Summer, then don't expect a massive window.

From an earlier article of his:

When it came to the redevelopment of Anfield's Main Stand in 2014, FSG handed the club an interest-free loan which reflected the fact that such projects are not considered in Financial Fair Play calculations and also allowed for payments to be paused during the pandemic.

However, for the building of a new first-team training ground at Kirkby and expansion of the Anfield Road End of the stadium, they took the unusual route of eschewing long-term financing to instead make use of the club’s £200m revolving credit facility.

It is a call that has since created an unnecessary pressure on cash flow when wiggle room would have been welcome, not least in the form of a desperately needed midfield signing being sanctioned six months ahead of schedule this season. It also makes a mockery of previous suggestions that Covid was limiting transfer capabilities given that, in the last accounting period, £70m of the balance of this external loan was paid off.

Quite why FSG would choose to create that time-sensitive financial burden rather than increase the size of their loan to the club when the impact of the pandemic was still being felt across world football is difficult to understand.

In fact, that decision appears even more questionable since it has emerged that the owners are open to a sale in which any infrastructure debt, particularly that relating to a cash-making project such as the Anfield Road End expansion, would hardly be seen as an impediment.
It is hard to shake the feeling that this unnecessary urgency placed on debt repayment relates to a desire to either make Liverpool look even more attractive to potential investors or maximize profit on any sale. And the same goes for FSG's steadfast refusal to deviate slightly from what is an extreme interpretation of a self-sustaining model even in moments when it is obvious the manager could use some help. Mercifully, there is an upside to this approach that will be apparent in the club’s next set of accounts when they are released next month.

It is fair to expect that the absence of Covid-related drag and further repayment of the revolving credit facility will allow for a big summer spend, even if Champions League football is not secured. But it remains to be seen whether FSG will make full use of that headway to give Klopp the summer rebuild he needs, or if they would prefer to leave it to new owners to capitalize on Liverpool’s bright financial outlook.

Callum Wilson as the Bobby replacement, perhaps?

Each to their own I guess. JWP is criminally under rated.
After the window we've had... LFC fans talking about who they'd rather have Mount or JWP, is kind of like the homeless discussing which car they'd rather have, a Rolls Royce or Maybach

JWP is about as average as they come, if he wasn't so good at free kicks he'd be a championship player.

There's a reason he's been at Southampton his whole career and never had an opportunity to move to bigger club.

Exactly.

We should be discussing who we'd rather have out of Mbappe or Bellingham.

There has never been a time when I’ve watched mason mount play football and thought he’d be good for us.
Same.. and there are times I've watched JWP and thought we could do with him on set pieces and making our midfield tick over.

I’ve seen JWP have decent games. Always in the right position to take the ball compared to captain coward who does everything he can to hide from view from our players unless he’s on the halfway line and 20 yards away from the nearest opponent.
