This game will tell us a lot. The lineup will be an insight into Slot’s mettle.

So many positives to take into this.

Team for me is

Marmadash

Bradders
Konate
Virgil
Robbo

Szobo
Jones
Wirtz

Chiesa
Ekitike
Gakpo

Let Isak, Mo, Macca, Kerkez use the final 25 mins to earn a place back, and give them the EFL cup game.

Also side bet: Mo to have a penalty saved by Kelleher

Slot was resting players tonight. It will back to the Status Quo at the weekend. Unfortunately.

Isak has a slight groin strain - he won't be risked. Jones for Gravy is he's not fit.

-------------------------- Marma -------------

Bradley ------ Konate -------------- Virgil ----------- Kerkez

-------------------------- Gravy

---------------- Szobo --------- Wirtz

Salah ------------------ Ekitike ------------- Gakpo

Win 0-2

Picking up too many injuries at a bad time, that's Ali Grav Frim and Isak in the last 4 games. Anymore in this game and we're truly down to the bare bones.

Mamardashvili
Bradley Konate Virgil Kerkez
Szobo Jones
Chiesa Wirtz Gakpo
Ekitike

I'd like a bit of consistency tbh. Isak being injured means Hugo starts and that's brilliant news.

Same midfield as last night (even if gravy is back - no point rushing him). Back 5 picks itself. I know there's a debate on Robbo/kerkez, but I still think persist with kerkez and let him try and find his place in the team

They were shite, it’ll be back to the usual team you’d have to imagine.

God I wish Robbo was 23.
He is so unappreciated sometimes. Would Kerkez have played the pass to Ekitike like Robbo did yesterday?
Would he have spotted Chiesa's run against Southampton, that won us the game?

Looking ahead, we have Palace midweek which is where we will put out the second string, which means I’d keep the side as close to last night as possible. This could be the same side against City the week after if Gravy isn’t back.

Marmadashvili
Bradley
Konate
Van Dijk
Konate - Robbo can’t play twice in a week
Jones
Szoboszlai
Wirtz
I’d play Chiesa but we all know it will be Salah
Ekitike
Gakpo

Tbf that comes with experience. Kerkez is still young.

Yea don’t be fooled by last night. Apparently he had assists for Scotland but looked well below it defensively. Plus we all know his concentration goes when playing multiple games in quick succession.

I don’t think anyone is advocating playing him 90mins each game, but he still has a lot to offer and should be getting more game time than he is.

id be happy with that. But I may wanna play Kerkez instead of Konate twice in the same game

A chance for Salah to reassert himself

After ending their four-game losing streak in Frankfurt, Liverpool need to reignite their title defence. Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Manchester United have secured 2-1 victories in Arne Slot’s past three domestic outings. The most notable change on Wednesday was leaving Mohamed Salah on the bench. The Egyptian has not scored for his club in more than a month, when he netted in the 3-2 win over Atlético Madrid on 17 September. He has not looked at his sharpest since the start of the season and it is understandable that, at 33, regardless of his natural fitness, he will need to be more carefully managed if Slot and Liverpool are to get the best out of him. A cameo in the Champions League kept him ticking over, although the game was very much done by the time he entered the pitch. Slot needs to decide whether to reinstall him into the starting lineup, which seems likely considering Alexander Isak’s injury and the prospect of being able to rest him for the visit of Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. As always, from the Guardian’s 10 things.

He is the future but Robbo is clearly still the best left back we have for big games. His motivational edge for the team is enough to warrant starts with the funk we are in.

Unlike many others his urgency levels remain off the charts, he just doesn’t have the engine or recovery of a few years ago.

I’m delighted he stayed and hopefully he stays fit to keep Kerkez pushing.

The first word made me misread the fourth word and I was about to reply "He was for his first 3 seasons, until he picked up 9 from Rush; but he doesn't play anymore"
I hated him giving up 23. Forever the Fowler I’ll remember from 94-95 to 95-96.

I know he scored a good goal but I doubt Konate can play in two positions at once.

"Jeremie Frimpong is not in a good place, he won't play today, tomorrow or next week. Hamstring injuries take a while.

"Alexander [Isak] is not too bad. He is a question mark for the weekend so we will see where he is and that is the same with Ryan Gravenberch.

"Alisson Becker is also not in the squad."
