We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team.
Speaking on behalf of the Arsenal board and our owners Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, Josh Kroenke said: “Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.”

The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.
We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward.

The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete.

Freddie at the wheel now much like Ole.
Wonder where Mourinho would have gone if he had had a choice between the two, Arse being the bigger club and having access to more money.
I think they want old days Wenger style football back from what I read.

hopefully they give the job to arteta or ljunberg.
Poch would turn them around in due time.
I think they'll go for Allegri though he'd be mad to touch this club right now.

When was his assistant not part of his team?

Yeah poch would be decent as would rafa but he would cost significantly more

It is worth noting that Arsenal firing their manager while ahead of Man U at the table. Please keep OIe at the wheel!!!

How much longer was he given? 6 months?

I have no clue what their plans are. Fans are getting frustrated as hell, as they all realizes he is a tactical mong. However as the club are cutting some wages while a few youngsters come in and sponsors keep on giving them contracts I guess they have no choice but to stay with him?

Wow. He has been in Bordeaux (his 9th club in 10 years incl clubs in UK, China, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Israel and France) only 6 months or so. And then he was their 3rd manager last season. Really a big gamble if stability is what they look for.

He has a winning % of less than 50 over his managerial spell. Though his only spell in PL can be summarized like this:

On 7 July 2010, Sousa became the new manager of Leicester City. Owner [bcolor=transparent]Milan Mandarić[/bcolor] stated that he was delighted to "acquire a manager of such great calibre", adding he was "the right man to take our club forward".[bcolor=transparent][22][/bcolor]
On 1 October 2010, after less than three months in charge, Sousa was fired by Leicester, after a poor start to [bcolor=transparent]the season[/bcolor], with the team having won only once in his first nine league games

Sounds perfect for them.

The French tweet is slightly more precise than the English one:
  1. Release clause is for 2-3 mill.euros rather than a straightforward 3 mill;
  2. Clause also applies if he goes on loan;
  3. He isn't the only candidate but his entourage have confirmed the Arse's interest.
