Man City to dish out another thrashing then?

[article]Leicester City could be missing up to 11 players for their trip to Manchester City, including seven defenders.

Only just back in action after Covid ripped through the squad, City now have a host of injuries to deal with, and it could leave them with a pieced-together back-line to face the champions.

Three of the seven possible defensive absentees are certainties to miss out. Wesley Fofana has been in his native France over Christmas with the centre-back not due to be fit until late January, while James Justin is in training but still short of match fitness.

Ricardo Pereira also won’t be involved, writing on social media that he will be sidelined “for some time” following a reckless challenge on him in the midweek Carabao Cup tie at Liverpool.

For the other four defenders, there are big doubts. Caglar Soyuncu also limped off in the week, appearing to overstretch his hamstring after making a goal-saving block.

Daniel Amartey wasn’t fit for that game and so was not included in the squad.

Jonny Evans and Timothy Castagne are the two most likely to be able to feature against the Premier League leaders.

On Evans, who pulled up with a hamstring issue five minutes into the 4-0 win over Newcastle a fortnight ago, Brendan Rodgers said there was a “question mark”, while Castagne will be back in training before the game, but may not have built up enough fitness to be ready to start.

The injuries are not limited to the defence. Back-up goalkeeper Danny Ward will again miss out having been unable to make the trip to former club Liverpool.

It was the first time in his City career that Ward had not been included in a matchday squad, having been named in the 11 or on the bench for 169 consecutive matches across all competitions before the clash at Anfield.

Winger Harvey Barnes is also a definite absentee for the game at the Etihad, while fellow academy product Hamza Choudhury was missing from the team on Merseyside.

Up front, Jamie Vardy was suffering with a tight hamstring for the final 25 minutes of Wednesday’s game, and so there may be doubts over him featuring as well.

Beyond those 11, Eldin Jakupovic and Filip Benkovic, who are both registered in the Premier League squad but have not played this season, did not get called up to the bench despite the injuries on Wednesday.

And so, City could be left with just 14 senior players: Kasper Schmeichel, Ryan Bertrand, Jannik Vestergaard, Luke Thomas, Youri Tielemans, James Maddison, Marc Albrighton, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumare, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ayoze Perez, Patson Daka, and Ademola Lookman.

Premier League clubs cannot get matches called off if they have at least 13 fit senior outfield players and one fit senior goalkeeper.[/article]

Lol, well Brendan...should have played your kids just like we did, shouldn't you?

Palace wants their game postponed, Norwich with new cases and same with Villa.
This boxing day league round could be even more reduced.

BT sport: Palace asked for this game to be called off but still only make one change. No idea why they wanted it called off.

Also BT sport: (reels off those out with covid) they name an under strength bench lacking in numbers.

Fucking idiots.

Tuchel activating his full-on cranky mode and letting his displeasure show... It might good for us that Klopp is no longer the only prominent voice for player welfare in the EPL - and the way Tuchel and Rangnick speak they make Klopp sound diplomatic by comparison. At some point the dam will break.

Tuchel is letting his displeasure show... I have to say, it might good for us that Klopp is no longer the only prominent voice for player welfare in the EPL - and compared to him Tuchel and Rangnick are even more straightforward and combative on this. At some point the dam will break.

It doesn’t help the club’s chairman still approves all the tv deals.

Chelsea have announced losses of £145.6m after tax for the year despite being crowned European champions in May.
Thomas Tuchel’s appointment to replace Frank Lampard at the end of January transformed the team’s fortunes on the pitch as they went on to defeat Manchester City in the Champions League final.

But the club’s financial results for the year to 30 June 2021 have been severely affected by playing games with no crowds because of the Covid-19 pandemic, while there was also a reduction in profit on player sales.
Chelsea’s turnover increased from £387.8m to £416.8m thanks to an increase in broadcasting revenue. But after posting a profit of £39.5m in the previous financial year, this year’s losses are significantly more than the £102m in the 2019-20 season.
Chelsea’s accounts state they are “reliant on Fordstam Limited for its continued financial support”. The company is owned by Roman Abramovich, and has indicated it will continue to support the club “for the foreseeable future”. As well as winning the Champions League for the second time, Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final.

Looks like all 20 PL based FA cup games will be forced to go ahead by FA.
The experience criteria will not be used so we will be playing sunday.

Our FA Youth Cup tie which was due to be played tomorrow has been called off.
Seemingly it wasn't because of Covid but because youth players will be needed for the game on Sunday

4 Serie A games were postponed today but interesting the league wanted all games to be played and it was in fact the health ministers organization that put a stop to them.

Club presidents have come out and almost berrated the decision, it really is intriguing the difference in opinion UK has to Europe.

It really depends on which variant of CV it is. If it is Omicron then the effects (both individually and as an effect on a nation) are not dissimilar to the common cold (and guess why) so I also don't see the point in wholesale postponing of matches - unless it suits us (getting players back from AFCON and injury) of course !

Did I read it right that the FA are forcing teams to play what they have, but any young player used in the competition this weekend will be exempt from being considered as ‘appropriately experienced’ by the Premier League? So what, this would mean those players couldn't be used in the homegrown/CL quota?

I'm actually in favour of forcing the clubs to go ahead with the Cup. There are too many backlogged games in the league as it is. I don't think we can afford further postponements.

Anyway, its the FA Cup. Make everyone play their kids. Maybe some of the smaller clubs will have a better chance of going through (hopefully Swindon). Covid is a bit of a lottery that affects all clubs at some point. Anyway, Arsenal or Chelsea will still win it at the end.
