My Fantasy football account will always be live. Thats to much fun regardless of which team you support.
I'd still be a Liverpool fan but not as passionate or involved. Which is pretty much what the few City fans I know said after they were taken over.

*Enhancing social status further
Well there you go then, contradicting yourself before we've even been sold !

After watching the Fifa and WC 2022 documentary I’d probably be finished with football if we are bought by owners from Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

Eh, no. It clearly says not being a passionate or involved fan. Being a lifelong fan of Liverpool football club wont change but how much time you spend following the club or football in general is another thing.

I was only messing. I understand.

I've been saying i hate football and that i'd quit for the last decade i think !

The younger ones should be thankful you didnt have to live through the dark days. Remember Woy Hodgson when he was our manager ? *shudders*

Yes, I obviously made that statement to enhance my social standing. God I hope it worked and that it was elevated to the top.
Hopefully my new social standing can give me the benefits I've been missing on this site.

That's brilliant. Honestly, I'll confirm I'll 100% be not actively supporting the club anymore if we become a sportswasher club

It depends on your definition of sports washing.

I for one would be quite happy for the club to be owned by, say, Ooredoo.

Sports owners invariably fall within one of two categories:

(1) Rich people who want to spend money to earn legitimacy, popularity and fame; and

(2) Parasites / investors who use the club to earn money.

Who do we want?

I want very savvy owners for whom owning a club isn't enough - success is the main objective.

The frustrating thing about City is that they're super rich, very savvy and very focused on world domination. I wouldn't mind some of that at Liverpool (minus the world domination with franchises perhaps because I don't like that).

I like the game of footall. I like the escapism it provides. There is corruption and "evil" at every turn in modern life. Bowing out of football as a matter of principle whilst leting all the other shit go just seems pointless to me.

Errr nooo ... what you also said was : I’d probably be finished with football.

So what it is then finished or I'd still be a Liverpool fan but not as passionate or involved ? You do realise they are contradictory statements don't you?

-100 Social Merits for attempted obfuscation.

Nobody buys a football club just because they love the club/city/region/game any more. And for £3B, £4B, £5B? Whoever buys us will want way more than just a pound of flesh. Ask FSG.

Ideally, I would be happy with FSG plus. Operate how we have but occasionally throw in an additional 20-30 million to help us with a midfielder or defense backup. I know such owners don't exist. FSG and probably Boehly are the closest to that.

It wont be that difficult for me to reduce the time I spend on LFC games. Given other responsibilities in my life, it is at its lowest since I started following LFC in mid 1990s.
It will be difficult or impossible for me to eliminate myself from the community I have built around the club. I cannot see myself saying goodbye to SCM for example.

What? I don't think that phrase means what you think it does. Then again, it means literally what it means, so I'm confused.
Oh it means exactly what I think it does. Here's the dictionary definition for you to mull over :
Definition of 'pound of flesh'. phrase.
If you say that someone demands their pound of flesh, you mean that they insist on getting something they are entitled to, even though it may cause distress to the person it is demanded from.

How does that relate to fsg exactly? What body part did we hack off? They improved a distressed asset and now want to sell it.

Good attempt, but you’re still wrong.

Also -
3. American sports owners

Tbf you did say you'd be done with Football if we were taken over by one of these Arab countries and since Liverpool plays football then that would imply That you'd be done following us.

Do you really think every person that call themselves a Liverpool fan are following the club or football closely?

I have mates that have been lifelong fans that now dont watch the games or take part in any discussions but if you ask them if they have a favourite football team the answer would still be Liverpool. Kids, work, different life situations or just other interests. Things happen.

Anyway, how people react and choose to follow the club in the future is their freedom of choice, and frankly none of your or anyone elses business.

Everyone has their limits. I was fine to walk away over the Super League for example as it was a fundamental upheaval of the game and taking the sport in a completely wrong direction. That was more of a rejection of the game itself, but as we were complicit in the process, I couldn't separate the two.

If we are taken over by the middle east and enjoy success, I do expect many opposition supporters to label us hypocrites. I would reply to that with that the landscape has shifted now FFP has proven to be completely unenforceable, and you may as well have owners who are willing to spend. The whole mess started long before us. The fit and proper owners test is laughable. FFP has been made a mockery of in the courts. The cat's been out the bag for years and everything since then has been inevitable consequence.

We can say what we want about City's owners but they have pumped a huge amount of money into the city and transformed an area that was pretty awful into a complex of sporting arenas, training facilities and properties that is pretty incredible.

No doubt, our autocratic dictators would also see the potential for regeneration in the city (which is surely primed for the right investor with bottomless pockets) and go on an investment charm offensive in Liverpool to win over locals and all the more effectively promote their nation's 'brand'. Good might come out of it for the people of Liverpool beyond also being able to compete financially on the football pitch.

I'm not saying it is what I want, but I think lots of people will make their peace with it if they see big investment in the city.

This is a very good point, mate. And one I hadnt really thought about. Might be the key to finding peace with the situation.
Shame I've said I'm done and gotten a new social status for it. Should have waited until you had made this point. ;)

Football has been dying for me since my mate, Andy, who I always went to the match with, died at aged 50. As it happened the day of his memorial service in a function room in the Kemlyn Rd, a certain Jurgen Klopp was being unveiled at the opposite side of the ground, and that has kept me going for the last 7 years.

I thought football finally finished for me in Paris, when I ended up having an embarrassing breakdown in Andy's son's arms when I finally got through that chaos and met him in the ground. But it turns out it is hanging in there, albeit in somewhat subdued form.

I honestly think a sports washing takeover would kill it for me once and for all. Like Hansern I will always be a red, will check the results & possibly watch the odd game, but the passion will be gone

But who knows ...

Liverpool takeover news: Billionaire ‘not contender’ and £750m loss warning as £5.1bn issue flagged

Mukesh Ambani reportedly unlikely to make Liverpool bid and US Consortium now looking likely. Premier League broadcast rights to fall significantly.

The future of Liverpool FC continues to be one of the biggest developing stories in the UK as the Premier League club’s current owners look to step aside. Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have been exploring options to sell the club, who were valued at £3.89 billion by Forbes in May, for the past month.
FSG purchased Liverpool FC from George Gillett and Tom Hicks for £300million in October 2010 and have owned both the club and Anfield Stadium since. Here are the latest headlines concerning the Merseyside club’s future from across the UK media:

Indian billionaire not a realistic contender to be the next Liverpool owner

Per a report from Football Insider, Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani is not a realistic contender to be the next Liverpool owner with a US consortium seen as far more likely to take over the club. The article references reports from earlier this month which claimed the 65-year old was interested in making a bid and say that multiple sources have told them that is now unlikely to happen.
The report says: “US investors from the private equity world who are expected to be part of a bidding war for the right to complete a full takeover of the six-times European champions. Ambani, the world’s eighth richest man with a fortune estimated to be in the region of £90bn, has not made a public comment on any potential move for Liverpool. He was previously linked with a takeover of the club in 2010 before FSG bought the club.”

But who knows ...

When Dunk tried to fleece everyone on Koptalk - i said to myself that's it, i've had enough. It's the end for me. I saw the hypocrisy and was appalled very few saw through it. Football was becoming too commercialised.

20+ years later, I'm still here.

FSG are 'leaning towards a PARTIAL sale of Liverpool rather than a full takeover' with new investors who can inject more funds for signings 'the more likely outcome' after the US firm put the Reds on the market for £2.7bn

  • Fenway Sports Group are reportedly considering a partial sale of Liverpool
  • New investors could come in to the club to inject more funds for signings
  • It would keep them at the club while helping the Reds keep pace with their rivals
  • The Premier League giants were put on the market last month for £2.7billion
