Exactly, so I think Can will get a pretty nice contract and signing bonus as well, either here or at Juve. His only risk with this strategy is a long-term injury, but he was willing to take that risk.

I have a feeling Can will sign an extension, just like Ozil. If his mind was made up already, he would have signed a pre contract with Juve.

I am sure that if he was thinking of signing again for us he would be keen to see if we are in the Champions League again next season .
Though I still think he will leave.
He is probably hoping that Bayern will be in for him.

Is height really the problem we have had in midfield this season?
Our biggest problem this season has been quality and speed of passing not height. The second problem revolves around the attacking the second ball and that isn't related to height, either.

Yeah I tend to agree. If you look at last season, we recycled the ball alot quicker in midfield, thanks to having Lallana and Gini in there more often than not, both can turn defense into attack quickly from deep, so what we lacked in genuine steel, we made up for a bit in that technical ability to get us out of a tight spot. Lallana has been injured a fair bit and Gini has been in the team less, while AOC is clearly there to give us a bit of what Lallana does in that sense, but neither of those three are consistent enough in terms of performance or the ability to carve out openings.

The bigger problem is and always has been, lacking someone who can put their foot in and be positionally clever. Keita sounds like he will more or less replace what we've lost with Coutinho, which leaves question marks over AOC, Lallana and Gini, while assuming Can goes, you have to then wager that Henderson and Milner will be the cover for the two deeper midfield slots. So doing the math, we're getting either a DM or a playmaker, knowing what we know of Klopp, it'll probably the latter, with the Henderson or Milner workhorse alongside it. Not terrible but not ideal in the longterm. But like I say, adding Keita plus another, even if Can does leave, puts huge question marks over a couple of players.

We don't know if he already done it with a clause of keeping it quite to not disrupt his run in with Liverpool. It looks weird the comments from Juve. But they can't deny interest or send other signals if he already signed with them.

And fair play to him, his performances of late have been generally good and he certainly didn’t look like he was “saving himself” by pulling out of tackles or anything like that.

So he is not waiting till the summer and keeping his options open?

.......... But then each player of the front 3 will need to pull his weight with goals, because there would be less coming directly from midfield.
Keita scores almost as many as any of our current three midfielders put together (Can 6, Ox 4, Henderson 1, Milner 1, Gini 1), so just adding him into the attack still leaves two midfielders (rather than the one, if any, we currently have .... and assuming he continues scoring at his current rate, 9 so far this season, 8 last season, 14 in 2015/16) ostensibly acting as a defensive shield.

Assuming Can goes and the rest stay, and we bring in at least one deep lying player + Keita, I’d actually be very pleased with our midfield option and depth.
I think we’ll be agitatng all summer and run into moan mode if we don’t bring anyone other than Keita in. Even though it’s likely Klopp could make us function efficiently in midfield if that’s the case.
I really want that Portuguese playmaker from the Championship. He’d be wonderful for us.

That’s great, other than the journos’ lazy assumption that he is the “Can replacement.” I think Ndidi or Dendoncker is the potential Can replacement; Jorginho is an upgrade on Henderson. I hope we get both.

If we got a ndidi (for some reason I'm less sold on dendocker), or someone of that ilk, then yeah I'd be all.over jorginho

If Jorginho comes, he'll play the deep lying holding role. Dendocker and Ndidi are different players, but they play in the same holding position.

So while I'd like Jorginho for the holding spot (as an upgrade for Henderson), I'm not sure I'd then be looking for someone like Ndidi or Dendocker. I'd then want someone who'd play in the two slightly more attacking positions flanking Jorginho.

Someone like Milinkovic-Savic. I'd also be looking at Rabiot who can play that role (PSG want to sell him this summer, and he's previously expressed his admiration for us) and Doucoure.

In an ideal world, Grujic would have been ready to step up. But I don't see that happening for another 18 months at the very least, if it happens at all.

I actually think Ndidi would play further up the pitch in Klopp's system. But that's a theme for another post (if we continue to be linked with him)...

He only has a year left on his contract, and has been reluctant to start any talks. Could be an excellent signing for quite a decent fee given his contract situation. Loads of clubs will be interested, but I'd sign him in a heartbeat. Excellent player.

Imagine a midfield trio of Keita, Rabiot and a quality holding midfielder. Wowzers.

Kieta and Rabiot are both box-box MF, would that work?

Remember when we had Mascher, Alonso and Gerrard in midfield? The equivalent of that could be Neves/Jorginho, Kieta and Ndidi
My friend I am many years removed from creating theoretical 'best case' midfields, or indeed any other part pertaining to an association football team.

I leave it to your generation to carry that torch, while I pipe up with the occasional unhelpful jibe about 'when I were a lad'

“I think I would like to experience something else (outside Ligue 1),” said Rabiot.

“There are a lot of very good championships, it’s also very rewarding to go elsewhere.

“I would love to play in the Premier League, not necessarily one club in particular, even though I was very fond of Liverpool when I was young.”

Raboit is only 22 and has 150+ caps for PSG? Thats quite an achievement, he must be superb. (i know fuck all about him)

Could be fucking brilliant

Complete midfielder. My only worry is his application, But I think klopp could coax it out of him

Do people really think we are going to start next season with three new mids?
I doubt it.
Keita is a given I guess but I suspect you will still see Hendo, Wijnaldum, Oxlade Chamberlain and a new recruit who is Can's replacement rotating in the midfield three for the start if not the whole of next season.
Milner will get plenty of game time too.

Yeah, it's how I see it

Jorginho links seem legit, so it'll probably be him, keita and another
