It is not that easy. Klopp obviously need to spend long time with players to have them work his system, hence they will not be a like for like. I don't say Milinkovic can't develop into a good Klopp player, but it will take time. And with the fun starting tomorrow we have not such time to spare.
 
To be fair to Can he's seemed very focused on preparing for this season and has concentrated on talking about the team and its prospects. But this has been a really boring story. One way or another this should have been sorted ages ago.
 
He's worth more to us for this season than £23mill. Keep and let him go for free if he doesn't sign.

After enduring a disrupted start to last season, Emre Can feels fit and ready to hit the ground running in 2017-18.

The last two pre-seasons have seen Can report for club duty later than the majority of his Liverpool teammates due to his international commitments with Germany.

However, unlike 12 months ago - when he did not consider himself to be in peak condition and then sustained an injury in the early weeks of the campaign - Can is satisfied with his preparations this time around, having featured in four friendlies in the last two weeks.

“We will see if I’m at 100 per cent, but I feel in good shape and really I am looking forward to the season very much,” the 23-year-old midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Hopefully when I play I will bring good performances for the team and I hope that everybody brings a good performance to help us win the game.”

A question on whether he is hoping for more luck when it comes to injuries this term elicited an open and frank answer from Can.

“Hopefully. It was not the best start last year, to be honest. I was not properly fit and I came back late and I got an injury - it was not perfect,” he admitted.

“Then I came back again and the team played very well so it was difficult to go into the team, but now is, I think, different. I think I have to look forward and I don’t have to think about that. I have to enjoy playing football again and then hopefully I’ll start better than last year.”

Saturday’s Premier League opener at Watford precedes the first leg of Liverpool’s Champions League qualifying play-off tie with Hoffenheim by just three days.

But, after a season without European football at Anfield, Can is relishing the extra workload ahead in the new campaign.
“Everybody’s looking forward to this season, everybody wants to play in the Champions League, of course. We’re against Hoffenheim now, against a German team again, [and] it will be a very difficult game,” he said.

“I know Hoffenheim from last year, they played really well and it’ll be a very tough game but our target is to win those games and to play in the Champions League.”
 
We're going to be forced to keep this bellend now and lose him for nothing next season. Great work again team.
 
He'll want to stay when we win the league. We'll sign him at the end of the season then flog him off crying for 50m to some shit team.
 
Fair enough but I find it hard to have any sympathy with him. He isn't that great and he's trying to have us over a barrel so I couldn't really care less how this goes. Great for him that Juve are interested and, like Lucas, he'd probably suit that league more but, for me, it's a big fat meh.
 
Juve are signing Blaise Matuidi for £18.2m plus add ons. Does it mean Can's out of the picture or they'll wait for him to sign on a Bosman transfer?

They can sign him on a pre-contract in January. What are we waiting for? Sell him or get him to sign a new contract!!!
 
I've never heard of such a saga over a playing position. If Can is good enough to make a position in the team his own, he'll make it his own. If not, he won't. You can't sign a contract demanding to be guaranteed a certain position in a team,it's ridiculous. I can't believe this is really what's been making talks drag on for so long. He's not played well enough or consistently enough to expect anything more than a simple new contract, the over-pomaded popinjay.
 
Not fussed don't rate him half as highly as some.

Considering the money in the game now I'd keep him as he while I don't think he'll ever be a super Star he serves a purpose which with the summer we've had is more important than 23m or whatever
 
Why have we allowed ourselves to get in this position once again. Klopp has over indulged can.

Now with 12 months left, he has all the power

In what way has he 'over-indulged' him? Should he have put him up for sale instead of starting contract talks? I doubt that would have won much support. And Klopp isn't involved that much in the talks themselves.

yes sell if a player doesnt sign. now we have the risk of player going on a free in 3 / 4 months.

Well he's not a bad player, and you surely don't mean unless a player immediately says yes to a basic new contract you stick them on the transfer list? That's crazy. You'd lose half a team if that was standard practice. Most negotiations take quite a few months.
 
Rumours of Juve looking to sell Claudio Marchisio - which looks like Juve are looking to go after either Emre Can or Kevin Strootman (Roma).

I too can't believe that would be the sticking point. Sounds insane.

I don't really understand what you mean. I agree that his performances don't dictate that he absolutely should be guaranteed a position, though the same could be said of those who occupy that position, and are seemingly guaranteed it.

Setting that aside though, hes not happy how hes used in the team and his contract is up. He is using the negotiation to put across why he is thinking about not signing on, given that he doesn't like how he's used. He can find another team where he'd like his role more. We can say no, your role won't change, and he can refuse to sign.

We are the idiots for not figuring it out one way or the other. I don't see how what he has done isn't exactly what he should do.
 
I agree. Hes getting better by the month. Hes 23 and already a great part of the team. He will get 10 to 15 goals this year if he plays every week but still defends and tracks back.
Get it done already. Whatever the kid wants, we cant afford to replace him
