The Ryder Cup

If I wasn't pumped enough for this shit, Rory's just gone and fucking drained a 15 foot putt to win $11M and the Fedex.

Fucking come on Europe!

I can't stand golf and even when any of the majors are on tv I'm like meh but I don't know why I really do enjoy watching the Ryder Cup, it's the only golfing tournament I'm happy to watch

I cant fucking wait. I've booked Friday afternoon off work and I'm on the ale all day watching this.

Get up rough on Saturday, watch us, then the golf all day. And then then Sunday, more golf. I haven't told her yet like. She fucking hates golf.

Day off Monday to recover.

For me, its the the best sporting occasion on earth. I love the sport anyway but something about this gets me going like nothing else.

COME ON EUROPE!

My favourite golf to watch.
I can't believe I fucked up by booking a trip away, thinking it was on this weekend gone.
I have a feeling the US will win this one.
Experience will win through I reckon as Europe has a lot of rookies.

I dunno, a lot of people are predicting a US victory. I think its so tight, it will be 14 1/2 - 13 1/2 either way or 14 - 14 (bold prediction I know)

We have a lot of Rookies but the likes of Stenson, McIlroy, Kaymer, Westwood, Rose and Garcia have all been there and done that. Get the right mix of pairings and we could do this.

The US team can't have too many players in who have won a Ryder cup. Tiger not being there (Playing) should help them but they just never look like an actual team. Plus the tournament just gone this weekend, a lot of their boys looked shite. Walker, Reed, Spieth, Fowler. They were awful.

I CANT FUCKING WAIT FOR FRIDAY!

Yea, its hard to know how the rookies will go.
Sometimes they can be absolutely inspired and make a good contribution.
I always remember Philip Price simply outplaying a high performing Mickelson in the Sunday singles to beat him comfortably.
Dubbisson and Donaldson did pretty well last time out too

Oh, and last night's golf was some of the best viewing in quite a while.
McIlroy will need to be more consistent to become a legend of the game but he has the magic and ability to get there

I think Willet, Fitzpatrick and Cabrera Bello will be OK. Its Wood, Pieters and Sullivan that I'm worried about.

To win this we need the likes of Rory, Stenson and Rose to be taking 4/5 points each. They are the big game players for us in this one. Westwood as well I suppose.

Might have a little go on him to be top points scorer for Europe. He will be playing in all of the Foursomes and at least one fourball, plus the singles. Think they will stick him with a Rookie in most though.

It does my head in. It's not a team fucking sport. And Ian Poulter is a cunt.

I don't know why, but I have a strong feeling USA will win by 5 clear points this time round. Woods presence will clearly unsettle some of our rookies, while it will inspire some of theirs.

Usually I'm all pumped up for it, but this time I'm not.

Nah Tiger is a prick and he wont inspire fuck all. Everyone hates him.

It'll be close :)

Get Pumped Mr V!

Arsed. The Ryder Cup lost me when it got turned into an artificial "Europe" versus the US thing.
Why?
It has only really become competitive and in my opinion enjoyable to watch since then.
Of course, me being somewhat younger than you doesn't really recollect the old GB and I days. :)

I take the point about competitiveness - though GB & Ireland could defo have taken the US on in a more equal contest as time went on - and Piedro mate, LOLzers. Ironically I suspect that, when the Ryder Cup change took place, the European Community hadn't yet morphed into a Union and at that time I had no trouble with it at all.

But the change felt bogus to me from the beginning. "What can we do to keep the crowds stirred up so the money keeps rolling in? I know - we'll make it look more evenly matched, even though the great majority of the 'Europe' team will still come from Britain and Ireland." I felt I, as a sports fan who had actually taken an interest in the Ryder Cup until then, was being played along and I don't ever react well to that.

Bah humbug. (I hope you fellas enjoy it though. :D)

I think the re energising of the Ryder Cup is entirely down to the expansion to take in European tour players and more specifically down to Seve.
Without him it wouldn't be the spectacle it is today.
As for the fact that most of the time players from the continent have comprised at least half of the teams, I suspect that if it had remained as GB and I, the competition would have remained in the doldrums and may even have faded away all together by now.
It might seem contrived a bit to some (the chanting of EUROPE, EUROPE,probably seems a bit contrived to most) but the passion and competition is very real as is the desire from players on both sides of the Atlantic to make their respective teams.

I agree Paul. Some of my favourite Ryder Cup players have been the Europeans.

Seve, Olazabal, Jiminez, Garcia. Well actually on that, maybe we should have just had a GB, Ireland and Spain team :)

Poor Bernhard.
:)

I love the way the Americans have been promoting the presidents cup and saying it is more significant than the Ryder cup mainly because they keep fucking losing! Funny how now they are the favourites they are bang on it again!
We should have baited them by suggesting they let the rest of the world join their team!

Im studying today for my bets on this. Add a bit of interest.

Think I'm gonna go with Rose as Top points scorer for Europe. Really not sure on the Yanks, but leaning towards Reed. Think Koepka will bang a few in but not sure he will play enough matches.

Also backing 14 1/2 points - 13 1/2 points both ways and the tie at 14-14.

I've got a bad feeling about this one and I can see the US winning comfortably...perhaps 17-11ish.

For the first day pairings I'd go with:

Foursomes - Rose and Stenson, McIlroy and Garcia, Westwood and Willett, Keymer and Pieters.

Fourballs - Rose and Wood, McIlroy and Sullivan, Garcia and Cabrera-Bello, Willett and Fitzpatrick.

Because he's German?

It's because he's German, isn't it?

Nah I think its because my first set of golf clubs were 4th hand Bernhard Langer Wilson irons and I fucking hated them. My dad wouldnt buy me a new set so I played with these till I was about 15 (They were a kids set!)

I cant remember too many Germans or Scando golfers that I actually liked.

Thomas Bjorn, Jesper Parnevik, and I quite like Kaymer. Anyone else?

Im off to Wiki to google previous Ryder cup teams. Bet I have forgotten loads.

He's alright.

I just love all the Spaniards, probably for the emotion of it all. Seve, JM, Jiminez and Garcia are all proper characters.
