It's a lot more difficult than you might think if you're not used to the accents in question. I have enough trouble understanding Carra as it is.

I used to find it hard but 5 years on & off working call centre work trained me to listen carefully, you'd be amazed how easy it becomes.

Similarly with the wire, all young us black slang & you struggle in the first couple of episodes, then you realise you've actually started understanding it without consciously trying.

Do you not find with carra you can understand him after he's stopped speaking? Sounds weird but I tend to find I repeat it slowly in my mind when I can't understand & it becomes clear.

Only time this hasn't worked is with drunk Geordies or Glaswegians. Impossible to understand. It may as well be Welsh.

Didn't stop me pulling a 6'2" Glaswegian blonde girl a few years back. How my height didn't is beyond me. My botched hungover attempt to sneak her past my colleagues from the hotel the next day caused them much amusement & provided them with a story to tell for a couple of years.
