Lads, did anyone seriously think he would be this good for us? I didn't expect him to be this prolific, this effective, after a decade of poor striking purchases (one exception).

We talk about Brendan bringing on and improving some players, and signing others. Like Sturridge was this good when he signed. I think this has to be another player Brendan has improved, not just signed!

I knew he would be a good signing, not this good though, anyone who says that is spinning a yarn there.

I had never forgotton his time at Bolton where he scored something like 9 in 12 and looked the buisness, also just watching him at Chelsea when he did play he did look a very talented sharp footballer.

Think with everyone it was hard to tell how good he really was as he never really played consistantly and even when he did it wasn't in his natural position, 31 PL starts in 3 and a half years is such a waste, no wonder he wanted to get out of there.

I knew he was talented but no, I didn't think he'd be this good. As a matter of fact I didn't really want him because of queries about his attitude, which he himself has since admitted were not unreasonable BTW.

As soon as we got him, though, he made it very clear how chuffed he was to be here and how grateful he was to Brendan for giving him his chance. Players quite often say such things when they sign for a new club, but he's lived up to every word. Kudos to Brendan for facilitating that, but equal kudos to the Studge for grabbing the opportunity with both hands.

His attitude says a lot imo, rejected by city then by Chelsea, massive promise & huge wages & signing on fees.

Many players have succumbed to relative mediocrity after such things, instead he is determined to prove himself, & may well be in the plane to Rio with a league winners medal as a result, as the most effective English forward for ten years.

He may be regarded as egotistical, but that sheer will & belief have driven him to this. Good on him, I wouldn't have had an ounce of that mental fortitude at the same age.

It does make you wonder what the fuck the Chelsea coaches were thinking, it was in front of their eyes everyday, to be fair to Villas Boas he had an idea, he at least played him consistantly.

His timing is perfect, to have signed at the same time as Coutinho helped. Any earlier and he would have struggled in the way the team used to play before then. Even the game coming up is perfect timing for him. After he's had a quiet last couple of games he's due to score now, he's against his old club, that club has a dodgy centre back. Like a proper dick he'll want to be the man to win the game which won the title.

I heard he's a wrestling fan somewhere the other day too. So he'll want to dedicate a goal to his hero the Ultimate Warrior. It's inevitable. And he won't even get humiliated and disowned by the rest of the team, as due to the timing they'll just think he's dedicating the goal to the 96.

Some of their fans were reportedly very unhappy he was allowed to come to us, and not for a sky-high fee either.

I think everyone knew he was a good player but Rodgers deserves a massive amount of credit for finding a way of getting both him and Suarez into the same side. He is a good allround footballer very difficult to get the ball off.
As for the attitude - he looks a miserable fucker on the pitch but maybe that's his way of staying focused. Off the pitch in all his interviews he comes across as likeable, level headed, down to earth and funny, not taking himself too seriously. Hope he will be with us for many years but another good season and the superich clubs will be sniffing around him

Like I've said before I rated Sturridge but I didn't like the idea of having two selfish players upfront. Just like I didn't like the idea of playing Keane and Torres together

I always thought he would weigh in with about 10-15 goals, which together with 10 from Gerrard etc, would have been a step up the ladder. I worried about his attitude and his all round game and whether that would be enough, but overall I saw him as a step up from having a top class striker plus someone like N'Gog. He's top, top quality though. Not on a par with Suarez, few are, but he's younger, hungry and almost as unpredictable at times. That, coupled with his pace is what scares the shit out of defenders.

If he can continue to pull out moments of class, like the chip against Everton, or the goal from a tight angle against Villa, then he's well on his way to becoming one of THE strikers to look out for in Europe over the next few years. He's got it all in his hands.

My mate is a Bolton fan and he said he was the best player they'd ever had, and couldn't get his head round Joe he wasn't starting for Chelsea. He scored ten in eight for them and when we were buying him he was saying he thought he'd get similar stats for us coz given any service he scores. So I was confident he'd be dead good.

Imagine we'd have loaned him last August. They would have wanted thirty million in January. Or would have had him back. I remember Rodgers saying it fell through because he didn't want a loan, it was a buy or nothing. I wonder if that was why. He knew how good he was gonna be

I expected a lot, and so far he's delivered.

Yup, me too. Wanted him when there was talk of him being included in the deal that took Torres to Chelsea. Hindsight is a great thing, but could you imagine if we'd linked up Studge and Suarez from back then?

Rodgers pulled a very similar stunt when FSG tried to interview him. He told them to either offer him the job or fuck off. Meanwhile Martinez was pictured walking down the streets of LA with a pink shirt and a mocha. It's nice to be hiring awesome people for a change, rather than a bunch of disingenuous pricks.

Not one person can claim they thought Sturridge would be this good. Not a chance.

I personally thought he was a very talented player capable of maybe 12-15 goals a season if he was spared injuries. Fair to say he's exceeded my expectations and he's certainly not the arrogant, selfish prick he was/is made out to be.

Now go and knock a goal or two in tomorrow Danny, good lad.

In common with mark, I expected him to weigh in with at most 15 goals a season which with about 10 from Gerrard, about 4-5 each from Sterling and Coutinho, and 3 or so each from Henderson and Allen (stop laughing at the back) would be handy additions to Suare's 20+. Never thought he would be this good and so consistent.

I wasn't really that excited tbh, although I did rate him. I suppose what I mean by that is that I thought he'd score goals but not offer much flair or top class potential.

Although I do remember thinking that he was clearly in need of the 'right' club: somewhere he'd be the main man and where he could flourish. It's amazing how often that happens in football, with top clubs just never having the opportunity or patience to let a great talent find his feet.

To kiss my own arse, I wanted Sturridge here ever since that Bolton loan.

But I also wanted Roy Hodgson, so I'm going to shut up.

Yeah, I was gonna answer Gary and say I did. But given it's the only thing I've got right in 10 years it's not much of a claim

What position did you take over Aquilani?
Initially happy to get him, but fucked off we paid that much for someone injured.

That slowly turned into excitement when I saw he might be able to be good for us

That turned to resentment and shame when I realised he was a crock who didn't 2 fucks about the club

They really didn't, lots of Liverpool fans didn't rate or want him at all, looking around the forums at the time the majority of people were not impressed, on one forum they done a poll and only 25% wanted him, 60% didn't and 15% were unsure as they hadn't seen enough of him, the attitude thing did sway some opinions but that was only a part of it.

You still see a lot of people saying the didn't rate or want him and 'hold their hands up on that one'.

Most fans were more excited and happy about Coutinho even though they probably hadn't even really seen him bar an odd game and some youtube highlights.

"Didn't rate" is not the same as "didn't want". Before he arrived, I rated him but I didn't want him, and I was far from alone in that.
