Already spent £60m with further addition of Willian, Lamela, and Pajnic. they will have a team that would rival the best in europe. If they do get their intended buys isnt the top 4 out of our reach?

A few seasons ago they had one of the best squads in the Premiership and bottled it. I expect much the same.

Since when have they signed Lamela and Pajnic? I imagine they'll get Willian, and get Contreau from Real in the Bale deal. They will have a very strong squad once they do, but they'll still be weak in the centre of defence for me, and they'll only really have Willian as a creative outlet. There squad will be on a par with United for me, but without the superb mentality, they're still behind both Chelsea and City for me.

I'm presuming they're selling Bale...

They perhaps on paper but it could take a season for everyone to bed in properly.

I'm of the opinion that they are changing too much too quickly and should have just made a couple of changes to last years record points tally (with a very slow start). What happens to last years signings Sigurdsson and Holtby if all these transfers come off? Is there room for them? However, I suppose Bale has forced their hand somewhat if he is demanding a move.

Tottenham began spending Gareth Bale’s world record £85million transfer fee on Tuesday with stunning moves for Brazil winger Willian and Roma forward Erik Lamela.
Willian was in London finalising his £30m move from Anzhi Makhachkala after turning down a move to Liverpool. The 25-year-old, brought in to replace Real Madrid-bound Bale on the left, had a medical and was discussing personal terms last night.
The move for Willian will break Tottenham’s transfer record for a third time this summer, but their spending is not over. Spurs have al ready signed Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Paulinho in a staggering £60m spree.

Now Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has flown in from his Miami home to press ahead with negotiations for Lamela and step up interest in his team-mate Miralem Pjanic.
The quest for Argentina forward Lamela, 21, shows the preference of manager Andre Villas-Boas for the best South American talent. Spurs hope to sign him before Sunday’s home Premier League clash with Swansea.
Bosnian Pjanic, who has spent two years at Roma after moving from Lyon for £8m, is also on Tottenham’s wanted list.

In attack, Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe are likely to leave White Hart Lane.
Tottenham have been busy all week and failed on Sunday night to sign Osvaldo from Roma because he had already agreed terms with Southampton.

SPURS SIGNINGS SO FAR:

Paulinho (Corinthians, £17m)
Nacer Chadli (FC Twente, £6m)
Roberto Soldado (Valencia, £26m)
Etienne Capoue (Toulouse £8.6m)
Total: £57.6m.
Spurs are using technical director Franco Baldini, who has an intimate knowledge of former club Roma, to secure their latest batch of targets. Baldini signed Lamela from River Plate when he was Roma’s technical director.
Lamela is a regular in the Roma side — he scored 15 goals in 33 Serie A appearances last season — but Baldini is determined to land the forward and negotiations began in London on Tuesday.

Spurs have also asked for playmaker Pjanic, another regular in the Roma team, as part of the package.
Tottenham have travelled to Tblisi for their Europa League qualifier at the Dinamo Arena in Georgia tomorrow evening. By the time Villas-Boas and his team return to north London, Levy should have wrapped up the moves for Willian and Lamela.
Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has been charged with improper conduct and bringing the game into disrepute over comments about referee Mark Clattenburg after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat by Spurs. Holloway alleged: ‘Certain clubs get fouls and others don’t.’

I say no. Maybe next season if they make the CL and keep the talent intact. They have never had a title run, and are proven bottlers. The squad may be spine-tinglingly spectacular if all the rumoured targets are assembled -- but there's no proven mettle in that squad.

I hope Bale fails his medical now ... or Real gets the shits and pulls out. That'll be hilarious

They're not going to sign all three of them, people seem to be forgetting that they have a wage bill to worry about, they've already hugely increased it, even if Bale goes, they can't add another ~200k onto it.

If/when they spend 100mill in this window, yes they will be, they could even win the fucking thing.
Just shows what happens if you take an average to decent squad, and spend over 100mill on it (wisely) in 1 window.
We've spent big bucks in windows loads of times, had our chances, and spunked the lot every time.

Not credible title challengers IMO because there are so many new players, and because City and Chelsea are better anyway, but certainly a long distance ahead of us and Arsenal.

They have done a lot to admire so far.
However they only have three centre backs at present two of whom (Kaboul and Dawson) have consistent injury issues.
Im unconvinced by Assou-akoto too.
But from DM forward they are ridiculous.

Oh and up front. Soldado is great but if he gets injured they have Adebauor and Defoe again who arent good enough, if they were Bale wouldnt have had to win them 15 games last year.

If they keep Bale they can challenge for the title. If he goes no.

Excellent time for you to start posting again ... Can we expect you after the Aston Villa game if we lose?

Haha, wasn't expecting that. It's the truth though. We're kidding ourselves if we think we can challenge for top 4. Next couple of years for sure with the right investment in squad.

Yeah their squad definitely lacks balance. I guess Lamela would count as an attacker in AVB's system, though, and Adebayor and Defoe are probably good as back up to Soldado.

It's odd that they haven't bought a centre half though, very odd. Did they really need Chadli? Spend that and and another £10m on a really good defender, and £20m on a less extravagant alternative to Willian, and they'd have been much better off IMO.

If they keep Bale, how the f#%$ are they spending out £90 m on transfers alone???

Come on mate ... we were kidding ourselves in thinking we could win Europe ever again after the 80s ... we were kidding ourselves we could land a player of Suarez caliber, or Coutinho's .... we were kidding ourselves if we thought we could beat Milan after being down 3-0 at half time ... Football isn't about paper, it's about a team playing on the pitch and the magic that may create. Call me an idiot, but I think something is happening within our team and Rodgers has us on the right path. We may not be ready this year - though I'm still a member of the DA - but Spurs are relying very heavily on one player for goals (Soldado) and have lost a guy who won them EIGHT games last year (nothing against Willian, Chadil or even Lamela) - but they're not going to do that. There's always a chance ... ALWAYS. I'd rather start the season blindly optimistic than be miserable from day 1.

The Mirror reporting Spurs are keen on Tom Ince too. There's speculative, nonsensical rumour, and there's THIS. Although, it'd be wildly entertaining to see how Spurs cope with all the new signings.

A-fecking-men.

What goes on outside the pitch may be beyond our control, but there's everything to play for on it.

Very true. Like your optimism, but I'm just being a realist. Hope I'm proved wrong

Improved results against the top teams will boost us. We still lack that ruthless streak in front of goal. If we get that right, we'll be immense.
