Hansern

Thinks he owns the place

Liverpool are close to signing Scotland left-back Andy Robertson from Hull City. (Andy Hunter)

It is believed that negotiations between Liverpool and Hull are all but completed. (Andy Hunter)

Rumoured fee of 8 mill £.

Apparently a deal is all but done for £8million. A big fat meh from me, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, might well end up being a steady eddie Steve Finnan type, let's see.

Beaten by Hansern, but at least they kept my title!

Haven't seen a video of him miming music in the car but

Definitely do not want.

Upgrade on Moreno, but the jury is still out in regards to what he can offer. He'll get a decent chance to do that though.

8 mill isnt much, and if it doesnt work out we'll get that back easily.

Milner will probably be the starting left back. If we do get what we're asking for Moreno, we'll end up with a better backup + £7m to spare!

Only 1 year left on his contract, which will have effected fee positively for us.

On a standalone basis, it's pretty meh considering every report I've read so far seems to be reserved on whether he's really an upgrade on Moreno. However, if we end up with Robertson AND manage to pull off signing VVD and Keita too, I'll be more optimistic. I can only guess that maybe Klopp thinks that Milner still has a good season at LB in him in the event that Robertson indeed is Moreno MKII, therefore it's not that urgent a position to replace with us already tapping up VVD and Keita behind the scenes way before the transfer window opened.

Yeah, if its a signing of low cost to provide funds for van Dijk and Keita, I can easily live with this signing this summer.

If we sign VVD and keita I can live with this , I don't want to but it becomes a bit easier to stomach

...and to think we were initially linked with Mendy.

We've been linked to a host of IMO better LBs since last summer; Hector, Chillwell (arguably), Kolasinac so yeah it's pretty underwhelming. Still wondering how the Arse pipped us to Kolasinac when we're the ones who have his former teammate and also a former Bundesliga coach.

Think LB is an important position for us. I do hope this guy is actually decent and we are not just getting a body in (though it does seem that way).

I've checked his transfer fee and his nationality using the internet.

  1. We are not paying £90 gazillion
  2. He is definitely not South American, in fact, I understand he is not European due to recent Brexit standardization
  3. Believe it or not, he was part of a team relegated last season

Given these indisputable facts I am a very angry chappy and predict that this isn't going to be a good thing. Since when have the mighty trans-continental Liverpool relied on a bloody Scot from a second tier division for a full back position. It 's a disgrace.

Seems like a backup signing, can't imagine he will be first choice. So the question is, are we getting an improvement on Moreno? If yes then given their fees will cancel each other out it's no big deal.

From what I've seen he's not a world beater but he's not completely brainless like Moreno so there is hope he can be improved

I do trust Klopp's judgement on full-backs in particular. He promoted then little-known Marcel Schmelzer to the first team at Dortmund and brought equally unheralded Lukasz Piszczek for free, converting him from striker/left-winger to RB – both soon became the best attacking full-back duo in the Bundesliga. Last season most people (including pundits) were highly skeptical about Milner at LB – again, Klopp was vindicated. He sees this position differently from most other managers, it seems, and looks for qualities that others overlook. He's also not known to buy players just to make up numbers – so if he sees enough in Robertson to bring him in, then I'm sure there is some real potential there.

Given how much use they get under klopp, it'd be great to have real top quality full backs. I'm not a huge fan of Milner, unlike most of the site, but improving on him would be a significant investment, and it's not high on the list of priorities. He shouldn't have played as many games as he did last season, and as fit as he is, he should play less this season. This is a back up and kicking down that improvement another year. As such we just need someone decent, and a token scot.

As unimpressed as I am, like others have said. If we sign VVD and Keita for the rumoured £120-140m I can understand the plan C at LB.

Mendy... One of the best

Tierney.. Potential to be one of the best

Robertson.. Relegated, and wasn't a standout player.

You can understand the apprehension.

Relegation is irrelevant, especially for a young up and coming player. Didn't we get Henchoz from one of the worst, relegated defensive backlines in history?

If he turns into a fine player, i will be the first to admit I was wrong.

Milner is getting old, I'm sure he wouldn't have complained if we'd bought a decent left back so he wouldn't have to go another season running up and down the pitch like a dog, especially now he'll be doing it twice a week.
