    Huge game.

A chance for us to put fear across the competition.

Porto were the most prolific team from set pieces in the group stages so we'll have to watch that but otherwise we should be giving these guys a spanking.

They won't sit back at home.

Cannot wait to see us back in it at the business end of the season.

What's our record when Dreamy is creating a match thread? There should be a much more thorough scientific research on this to maximize our winning chances. Brendan and Rosco should put their research skills to something useful for a change.

    We’ll twat them.
We’re inconsistent which is the worry, but I reckon we’d still have enough to destroy them. We’re normally at our worst against the teams hat park the bus. I doubt Porto will be doing that.

Looking down Porto's recent games they either score 1 or 5 goals. Hopefully the former.

    Hendo Milner
    Salah Gini Mane

Get fast players on the bench

I don't think Porto have ever lost against an English team at home have they?

I think the big question for us is who plays the creative midfield role out of Lallana, Ox and Milner. I think it won't be Ox, because he didn't play well in the last game (or last few) and also Klopp probably started him in the last game because he wanted to rest a starter for Porto. I suspect it's going to be Milner, who played quite well recently and linked up midfield and attack probably better than anyone since Coutinho left.

Rest of the team picks itself, the only question is over Gomez's fitness. Assuming he's fit:

    ----------------------Karius--------------------
    Gomez----Lovren----Virgil----Robertson
    ---------------Hendo------Gini---------------
    ----------------------Milner--------------------
    ---Salah-----------Firmino--------Mane---

With the way that team has been set up, I don't think I'd want Milner or AOC in that advanced CM role, I'd almost prefer Can or Wijnaldum to play there if Lallana isn't fit enough.

Wonder if Klopp will bring Moreno back?

Why? I mean it's a moot point since Can is suspended, but isn't it rather obvious that the midfield of Can/Hendo/Gini is severely lacking in creativity?

It is, but I wouldn't play AOC or Milner in that advanced role, Milner is too lumpen and agricultural, and AOC is brainless and has zero end product

AOC scored the opener against Man City, so "zero" is simply untrue. If he was in decent run of form, I'd play him (same for Lallana), but I think you're not giving enough credit to Milner, who has been quite good in the last few games, whether he started (Huddersfield, Spurs) or came off the bench (Saints, West Brom). It's not the best situation when Milner is probably your best creative midfield option, but this is where we are.

If Klopp decides Lallana is ready to start against Porto that's fine with me too BTW – it's an opponent that might suit him. I'm just not sure if he's physically ready and therefore it's probably smarter to keep him in reserve for the last 25 minutes similarly to Saints game. I hope he can start at Anfield in the return fixture.

Milner is creative he just isn't suited to a holding DM role

If you're going to get all fucking pedantic and literal, then saying he's "brainless" is "simply untrue" as well, given he must have some kind of functioning brainstem in order to make his individual limbs move and organs work.

However, I assume some amount of linguistic and logic heavy lifting can be done by the recipient, without me fucking spoon-feeding everything.

So I said "zero end product" which was to illustrate that in most games, he doesn't score, create or deliver enough. The occasional good corner isn't enough, and his passing is fucking rubbish.

As for goals, in actual fact he's scored three. Which is the most he's ever managed in a season, even if it's nothing to get excited about. However, it did seem to be enough for everyone to start quacking on about how amazing he was, and a steal at £40m, and Klopp's a genius, and he can replace Coutinho and how he's proven everyone wrong who didn't rate him, and blah fucking blah.

And the he was shit again. Oh noes! It's almost as if....he isn't ever consistent and nothing at all has changed, and he's not good enough.

So apologies. He hasn't scored zero goals. He has been largely fucking shite though, apart from a handful of games.

"Zero end product" and "brainless", thats some fine tuned scalpel-like precision, finesse, and humour with some added brilliant insight bundled into a post of joy.

Porto are much better than most in here are giving them credit for. We need to score over there. Even if we come back 2-1 down I'd fancy us to win it at home. But they are no mugs.

Agreed, but even so, there's hardly any point trying to discern from the opposition's quality - mugs or otherwise - how Liverpool will perform.

We've beat the Champions Elect 4-3, and a week later lost to the team at the bottom of the league. And then did it again against the second-bottom team.

    -------------Karius--------------
    TAA---VVD---Lovren---Robbo
    ------------Hendo-----------------
------Gini---------Lallana------- I could be tempted to have Milner in too but I just think it lacks something. Shame to miss Can for this one.
    Salah----Firmino-----Mane---

We know that we have an inability to shut up shop, so i'd want to see a team that can get an early away goal and take the game to Porto, rather than hope we keep it tight and hit them on the counter. We can't 'keep it tight' but there are a lot of times it happens as a result of hitting the opposition hard.

Possibility that Mignolet plays, surely?  Klopp has been switching keepers for the CL games.
