NFL - Offseason, Draft & 2018/19 Season

To be fair to the Browns they didnt have anything at CB and needed Ward most of all. He’s already their best player in that position.
Still surprised they didnt take Chubb mind or Barkley in the first.
That Mayfield pick could easily be one they regret early.

It is the Browns though.

You fleeced the raiders imo ... fleeced them ... a 3rd rounder? He's never even got 50 catches in a season ... 3rd round you can get a Gallup or a Washington - who are as talented.
Hes better than that though. He barely played last year and didnt play at all the previous year. He can be a go to guy

I like the Vander Esch pick. Will be interesting to see if we get a WR at 50 or try a trade for Thomas.

OY - give me credit, I said it a few posts before him! :)

I'm very disappointed Jerry didn't trade up with Baltimore to get James ... That was a monster cock up UNLESS we're going to be trading a 2nd or 3rd for Earl Thomas.

I know I know, we needed a LB and Vander Esch could be good (assuming the neck condition isn't as serious as some teams said it is) but James was the best S in the draft and we've not had a 'great one' since Darren Woodson ...

They looked at that neck again before the draft last night, no issue.
Brugler said no other team he had talked to had any issue with it either.

Oh he has phenomenal talent - but he's not exactly sane and you have two fucking studs with Brown and JuJu ... so to get a 3rd rounder and strengthen your D etc is a good move imo.

Oh, and worst pick of the draft so far? Kolton Miller! (RaiDUHS)

I thought the below would get drafted in the 1st round:
Landry
Daniels
Hurst

It seems like the Browns fucked up on draft planning.
The Broncos, Bears and Jets must be laughing.

Would it be terribly surprising if Jackson turns out to be the best QB in this draft ?

I heard someone question whether this draft is like the 2011 one - where is you didn't take a QB in the first round you inevitably got a superstar

The only slight I read on him was his wonderlic score. I have no idea how that works though ...

I thought about that. However i'm not so sure it was a fuck up now.

If, and its a very big if. They thought that Mayfield was head and shoulders above the rest of the QB class. Then they had to go for him at #1. Since all signals from Jets camp was they would take Mayfield. Whether the jets would have or not is another matter, but the browns couldn't take that risk if they thought he was by far the #1 to fit there system.

They sorely need both CBs and Ss therefore Ward does fit as overall scores regardless of position he was top 5.

Chubb a year after Garrett would be going all in on two rookies. Broncos have a Vet in Miller to protect Chubb.

I do think they should have taken Barkley. Look at Cowboys who took Dak and Elliot. Having a franchise RB who can also catch would have taken the heat off any of the QBs to develop into however the team wanted. Hyde isn't that kind of RB. But they obviously had a clear plan B if Barkley was snapped up.

You said it yourself, it is a big if. They had two early picks and may not have picked either the best QB or CB with their picks.

Barkley should have been number 1, and then if Darnold and Mayfield were gone at 2 & 3 just take Chubb.

If that was to be redraft now..
#1 Newton
#2 Miller
#3 J Jones
#4 JJ Watt

JJ Watt would have gone 1 - he's a hall of famer, generational talent.
Smith = the best LT in football - would go ahead of Julio imo.
Patrick Petersen is insane too.

If we dont do a trade, what do you expect at 50? Sutton, Miller? Surely it will be a WR

If Hernandez, Guice or Josh Jackson drop - i think we'll take them ahead as there's some really really good WRs.

If we go with WR in 2nd - it will be Miller, Sutton or Gallup.

I'd love to draft Callaway with a 7th though - kid will be great if his mind can be sorted

Is that the IQ test ?

Well you'd obviously want a smart QB but whether Wonderlic is indicative of football smartness is surely a question ?

I'm sure someone has tried to figure that out

When I worked on CBS's half time show, I used to always think Marino was an absolute idiot. If my mind still works, I think he was one of the lowest tested QBs ever for 'intelligence' ... so IQ means nothing, but there's nothing else besides 'a lot of work' that should have scared teams picking 15-32 from him imo. I think the Patriots must be aiming for Rudolph or White in the 2nd/3rd as they passed on him twice.

I dont think they can style that fuck up out man.
Mayfield was the very outside bet at QB
They had fucking Berkeley and fucked it. They had Chubb and fucked it.
For a mor QB from the pack.
Its insane.

We got our QB then. And a WR
Should be all D from here on in for us.

Just read up on Witt - looks like it's really likely to happen.
Boy oh boy - a 1st ballot hall of famer, but a massive influence in the locker room ... oy

Looks like we just draft his replacement - Dalton Schultz ... good value too.
