NBA 2016/17

Olynyk's unconsciousness in the 4th quarter broke the Wizards. Hope these Celts will give the Cavs a harder series than the choking Raptors.

Cavs are going to the finals, so it's just a matter or how close the Celts can make (each game in) the series. What's more interesting is whether Boston end up with the no. 1 pick tomorrow (via Brooklyn).

I thought the Wizards were going to win game 7. Missed the game but I read that Wall didn't show up in the 2nd half.
Anyway, I see the Cavs winning the series but I'm afraid that they might lose the first game. 9 days rest is almost too long and they also have to travel to Boston. Would have been a sweep if they started in Cleveland.

What do you do if you're the Celtics ? Trade down or just take Fultz and see what happens ?

It would be hilarious if the Lakers passed on Ball. But it seems inevitable that he's going there.

Celtics will take Fultz I think.

Unless they can push the Cavs to 7, and Ainge thinks adding Butler/George will tip them over the Cavs.

Ball to Lakers is a certainty.

For now, I'd keep the pick and draft Fultz. See how the chap does, or trade him for a stellar big guard who will be in his prime in 2 years' time. I'm not sure you can win a title these days with a 5'9" PG, partnered with a 6'2" SG, so Fultz at 6'4" gives you a nice option. They're likely not going to be challenging yet next season so they don't have to rush things and pack off their pick to challenge in the here and now. Of course, they have to hope he doesn't bomb.

It's crazy that they still have Brooklyn's (definite lottery) pick next season. It's unprotected in a draft class that's projected to be a good class for big men (according to current mock drafts anyway). So if the Celts need another big man, they can play the long game and take one in next season's draft.

Celtics should take Fultz. I'm not totally sure about Ball and his heart isn't set on playing in Boston.
Cavs will have no problems attracting good players with LeBron on the roster.
This summer they're most likely signing a talented player from the Turkish league in Cedi Osman.

I have a feeling that Boston are going to play the waiting game. George is set on playing for the Lakers, I'm not totally sure how that will work out though.

Celtics just couldn't handle the heat of playoff Lebron. They will adjust for next game.

It's not just the inability to contain Lebron though. Celtics just flat out didn't turn up in the first half at both ends (not sure about the second as I stopped watching at that point). Al Horford was incredibly useless and as soft as goopy shit, while Thomas was laying up brick after brick. The Cavs didn't even need to break stride to blow them out in the first half.

This is a short series if this happens again in Game 2.

So, game 2 between the Celtics and the Cavs tonight.
You think the Celtics can get a win or are the Cavs just too strong?

I'm leaning towards the Cavs. Boston looked tired in the last game and lost despite Cleveland not playing at their best.
Basically everyone except Love shot horribly from the 3 point line, Irving 0%, JR 0%, Lebron 1/6 and Korver 1/6.
I think they were a bit rusty, but it was enough to beat Celtics. Cleveland will shoot better in game 2 and if they start raining 3's on them it's going to be another rout.

Boston lost Game 2 and the series is over.
We may have a really boring conference finals - one due to Zaza, the other due to the strength of the Cavs.

What's your take on the east? Is LeBron winning because it's easy or is it because he's so good?
I think it's a bit of both to be honest. LeBron can only play who's in front of him and to be completely honest I don't think Kyrie has really shown up during the playoffs. It has basically been LeBron vs the East.

I really hope Kahwi is back for Game 3, Golden State are some lucky bastards with regards to injuries.
This year they've avoided Hill at Utah, Nurkic at Portland and now both Kawhi and Parker at San Antonio.
The year they won Cleveland were without both Love and Irving.
It's getting stupid.

LeBron is that good - so as long as he's on a decent team (he's on a very good one), very few teams will challenge him.
I don't see who can challenge them in the coming years - until he starts slowing down.

Yah GS have been lucky, but that's sports for you.

The East is weak as shit. I think you could put a healthy Clippers, Utah or Portland in there and they could get to the Eastern finals, not to mention the Spurs or Rockets. Heck, maybe Utah without Hill or Portland without Nurkic could still make it interesting. Even Memphis with Conley, Gasol and Zebo has a shot.

21-10 with 3 minutes to go and you can see these Celtics have nothing to match the Cavs. Nobody can guard James, sure, but these Celtics are showing no fight or ability at all. Al Fucking Horford - what's the point in this guy again? Isaiah Thomas - his leadership in this series measures the same as his height.

Stick a fork in these green beans, they're done.

edit: I swear the Cavs have had 250 layups on this pile of green poo in 5 quarters.

edit2: Only Bradley and the rook Brown has shown any heart in this series. The title-winning Celtics team (if it happens in the next few years) will not feature Thomas as the starting PG. You cannot win with a midget at PG in this era. Quote me and shame me if Thomas helms the team on the way to a ring.

As predicted 3s from the Cavs led to a rout. Never seen a team beaten so emphatically in the ECF. What a game from the Cavs.

The Cavs figured Thomas out early. He got 2 points today. 2!!!
I think fatigue has something to do with it.
Lebron with 30 points shooting 67% from the field, 7 assists, 4 blocks, 4 steals and +45 in under 3 quarters.
Legend.

So it's looking like the Cavs and the Warriors are on a collision course, like pretty much everyone predicted.
The Warriors are clear favourites imo, their team is just too good.
My question to you guys is, what would the Cavs need to do in order to win?

While I know that Cleveland have the LeBron factor, I don't think he can beat them by himself. He needs help from Love and especially Kyrie.
The only way the Cavs win is if they break the Warriors spirit, like they did in Game 5 last year. They have to play tough and not give Durant and Curry an inch. But in all honesty those two aren't the ones I fear, it's actually Green and Iguadala, especially if they're on the court together. They will double on LeBron and that's when Kyrie, Love, JR and Tristan should step up.
So basically the Cavs don't have any room for mistakes and everyone in their team needs to be at their best. Golden State can however afford to have one or two players playing below par and still put up a challenge.

I think - and based on my argument the last two pages, you can tell where it's coming from - LeBron is going for the kill in these playoffs. He's rested a ton, he's angry, and he's chasing 'the ghost' ... The key to this series to me is can Green cope with LeBron playing at this level. If he can just slow him down little, the Warriors have an edge ... If LeBron owns him, the Cavs will win because if your best defender and vocal leader is getting eaten alive, your team will struggle.

Cavs in 6

Is Iggy back ?

I don't think anybody is stopping Lebron right now - he's got the confidence and basketball intelligence that experience brings but he hasn't lost anything physically.

I don't know whether doubling Lebron is the best option - because you're leaving a team full of shooters with open threes if you do.
Maybe just leave Iggy and Green to take turns guarding Lebron and give him the 2 points if he beats either of them.

He probably will be back for the finals.
