MNF with Klopp

Not the right topic for it but having to wait for a week to see us play is like having drug withdrawal problems. Why the fuck did go and have to lose against Seville?

Yup, this one game a week is cool when we're perfecting the pressing game.

I'd rather Klopp had carried on talking rather than them going to the game. (Watford's players might as well wear trousers - those shorts look like they've been borrowed from a museum.)

I dunno, I love Jurgen, but I think it's ridiculous to tell the world your game plan. I don't see Mouriniho or Fergie doing that. Or maybe I'm just being all Caveman / Skully -like

But maybe the other managers have already figured it out, and it doesn't matter.

The latter. Any premiership manager of note will know our gameplay inside out. It's not a secret, anyone can work it out by watching us, & the players always bang on about it also.

No manager or team in a top league can have a game plan that the opponents don't know, it's not possible.

It's not really rocket science anyways. I know there are all sorts of tactical nuances and innovations but what ultimately wins you games begins with quality and a willingness to work.

Robben has been doing the same 'ol predictable shit for years now and at the age of 32 defenders are still having a tough time against him.

I love watching him just take over the tactics board & talk. He could gladly do that for hours. I'd love to sit down with a pint with him & let him talk tactics.

Me while watching that

You think he was offering up the nuclear codes or something?! Jesus.

Your average Joe Tactic down the pub knows what Klopp's team do, and could explain it probably in better English than Jurgen did last night. Forward press, number 10 splitting the pitch, attacking full-backs, and not allowing the opposition #6 space to dictate play. Do you think Mourinho's sitting there watching that and furiously taking notes?

Fuck me mate.

No, not Mourinho. Bet you were though.

Two things that still worry me about Klopp's tactics:

1) As I already mentioned in another thread, the fact that we seem to slow down in the 2nd half. Obviously against a 10 man Hull that wasn't that big of a problem.
The players looked absolutely knackered in both games. We need to finish off teams quickly in order to win it seems.

Arsenal: All 4 goals scored before the 64th minute. Arsenal scores two afterwards.
Burton: Late goals scored by Sturridge who came on in the 64th minute.
Spurs: Penalty in the 43rd minute.
Leicester: 3 goals scored by the 56th minute. Late goal by Firmino as well in the 89th.
Chelsea: 2 goals in the first half.

2) I still believe it's absolutely vital that we take the lead and finish teams off by the first half. We came back thanks to a wonder goal against Arsenal but against Burnley who only sat back and defended we were unable to hurt them the same way we hurt teams who come at us. This somewhat relates to my first point. If our opponents manage to score early in the game and manage to keep the lead during the entire first half, are we strong enough to turn it around?

Do we? Didnt do that in the Leicester game. Quite natural against both Chelsea and Hull.

We did that several times last season. Why should it be a problem now?
The Burnley game still bugs me. If we played it now it would end in a different matter. I liked Klopps explanation last night.

It's proper execution that makes tactics work. They can work out our game plan but if we execute as we've been then they will have a hard time stopping it.

So much this. Our tactics were never a surprise in the glory days. We were just too good at them for any opposition to be able to stop us consistently.

We don't always slow down in the second half. That's ignoring the circumstances of the matches. In the majority of games we've done well enough in the first half to play a different kind of game in the second half. Against, say, Arsenal, when we still needed to push in the second half, we upped the pace until we'd got the goals.

It's always good to score early. That goes without saying, really. If you do that then of course you manage the game more effectively in terms of pace and intensity. I don't think you can make too many judgements as to our stamina when we haven't NEEDED to stretch it so far. Not needing to stretch it, and actively conserving it, is not a sign of its absence.

What we do need to do, obviously, is to defend more consistently and effectively.

Slowing down in the 2nd half after being 3 up in the 1st is pretty standard to be fair...for any side. It's impossible to keep that frantic pace and urgency up and subconsciously the players take the foot off the gas knowing the game is won. Like United on Sat vs Leicester is another example. Of course that doesn't mean we should get all complacent and sloppy but it's a regular thing in football when a side has a significant advantage at half time.

Even that Arsenal game at Anfield a few years ago is a case in point...4 up in 20 mins having blitzed them but their was no way we could keep that up over 90 minutes.
