We haven't had one of these threads for a while..

So how's he doing?

Happy with him?

This just sums up why I like him.. He just says it like it is..

There are at least three responses to this, and they're all well-established and predictable and largely pointless.

Who wouldn't be really?

Without wanting to repeat myself, as per my post in the Manc thread. Our attack is so watchable, only an idiot would deny that it's one of the fiercest, inventive and enjoyable front lines we've had. Salah is an absolute gem of a buy.

Karius is on the up, our defense when Mignolet, Lovren and Moreno aren't in it, is starting to look quite good and stable. The midfield is steady but not particularly bad (I'm sure Keita plus another will improve this further). And besides all of those obvious positives, Klopp is such a positive, animated and genuinely honest, likable guy.

I'm disappointed about the domestic cups, but our form in general in the league and getting to the quarters of the CL, makes up for that a fair bit. Klopp needs a cup win and I think he'll push on then, but it's an incredibly difficult league that's being dominated by possibly the best team in Europe. Getting into a position to try to break up that domination, takes time and perseverance/indulgence.

I’ve never really fully brought into the Klopp mania as much as many Liverpool fans, in many ways I still don’t, but that's not to say I'm not a massive fan. The club were extremely smart to land him when we did. I'm confident it will prove the biggest and best decision during FSGs ownership, because there's surely nobody alive more suited to manage this club and the fact Steven Gerrard is learning his trade to some degree under Klopp makes me optimistic about both our short and long term future. I don't think I remember a time when the fanbase seemed so united in its support.

He said when he joined if he didn't win the title in 4 years he wouldn't be here.

We are playing great football but ultimately he needs to deliver a trophy in the next 15 months or questions will be asked.

Whatever you may think...he makes you look forward to each game. With Rafa and GH it was nearly always a feeling of security but matches were about the finer details. Klopp has an actual strategy to attack the opposition which makes you want to watch each game knowing shits gonna happen.

I think he's great. I love the passion, the humour, the lack of caring what he says. Such a great personality for the club, and selling point for players.

He is, of course, not perfect, but we are lucky to have him.

Positives
  • Great football. Some of the best in my 25 years watching the club
  • The club's purchases have drastically improved since he came on board. We seem to be getting the big signings correct now
  • You get the sense that there is actually a long term vision and master plan in place, rather than shooting in the dark each season
  • Unwilling to spend unless its the right fit
  • Clear philosophy seems to have been integrated into the first team
  • The classic celebrations

Negatives

  • Has taken ages to sort the defense. Only now, 2 and a half years later, and after spending 75 mil on Van Dijk is it looking better (arguably). Worth remembering that Benitez made us the best defence in the league without spending a cent on the back four.
  • In-game management has never convinced me. Quite slow to make adjustments when things arent working. Subs are often the wrong ones.
  • I think there are far more tactically astute managers out there. Klopp seems to rely very much on attacking football and 'passion'
  • Has had 5 transfer windows to sign a proper deep lying midfielder, but seems to have a blind spot in that regard
  • His patience with Lovren is starting to seriously annoy me

Regarding your first Negative.
I think taking charge of a team with Carra in his prime, Hyppia the magnificent next to him, a left back that isn’t Moreno and the steadiest right back of the last decade in Finnan, with the luxury of calling on Hamann to sit in front, with the combative and brilliant Gerrard nearby, as well as the purchase of one of the most majestic midfielders we’ve ever had in Alonso will have helped Benitez in the defense department.
You just have to look at where the emphasis is. Attack or defence? No other manager in our recent history has made as exciting an attacking team as Klopp, and it only took him 2 years.
And you’re very unfair on Klopp with this supposed reliance on attack and passion rather than tactics. The way we get the ball back so brilliantly before creating chances is through proper tactical preparation and dedication in training. It’s so well organized and looks anything but ‘passion’ driven.
If he relied on those two aspects alone, his record against a Guardiola side would be pretty abysmal, yet isn’t it actually the best amongst all current managers? It would be pretty easy to replicate for all managers if that were the case.

A silly question to be asking at this stage. We are only just getting into the business end of the season with league potions / champions league yet to be decided.

But surely anyone can form an opinion as to whether we’re headed in the right direction under Klopp.

Im starting to think a bit differently as I age.
I think the pesuit of titles was everything to the younger me.
But now I think the persuit of 90 minutes of peace and quiet and happiness is enough.

I would guess that growing up in the 60s and 70s a lot of the fun of football was going out of the house and getting away from the wife and kids for a bit of peace, same as going to the pub.

Im more on that path now. Im quite enjoying the game itself.

I think with these owners we wont win any trophies, so I may as well enjoy the games.
And Jurgen certainly makes the games fun.

Ive stopped expecting titles now. More aware of where we actually are in Football.

So in terms of providing me with 90 minutes of entertainment im happy with his progress.

Inner peace? Buddha likes this.

That's probably why this season has been so much fun to watch. We have been out of the title since about September but continued playing pressure free great football

You have valid Points there. Most of the time we will see games not Direct leading to a title or a cup. And those 95% of matches is the day to day life of a football supporter. And I love getting out of the house, setting my self free from the other things in life. Feel the build up, expectations and nervousness before a game. Walking over to the pub and order that first beer, meet some people I really don't know well but meet every time there is a game going, and discuss the coming game or last game or progress or lack of progress. We have a good selection of football pubs over here, and I of course have my favourite one. But I change from time to time, and love to smell the atmosphere in some of the other pubs as well. They all have their own rythm. Design. Personell. But a few of them are really good. Even when dropping by one by coincidence a midweek in the Autumn when it was nothing but Real Betis vs Real Madrid on it was a lot of people and good atmosphere.

I love it these days because I expect so much good football from the team. I can sense that we are progressing, and given time Klopp can actually build something different even with limited resources. I think we have seen that Money has kind of lost it's value. By that I mean the insane sum's going around is not reflecting the value of the players they get you. Siggurdsson cost more than Salah ffs. It is now more about finding the right prospects and make them perform. Of course it is nice to be able to buy Lemar in example, but those 90 M Pound could get you a double Salah and throw in a Robertson as well last summer. I rather just watch what we can do with less cash than others (yet we are loaded, so we really don't have any worries), than splash all cash in the world and not getting a trophy would then be disaster. I think it is intersesting and a tad pathetic how valuable those League Cup and EL trophies became just because United and not Wigan and Ajax won them. The hype that never lived up to the real deal. We see it today as well where People on here even give them credit for the Semi final in FA cup With view of a trophy as better achievement than Our CL quarter. I am comfortable anyway, cause these days People around just admire Klopp and Salah and Firmino and fucking even Karius looks good (without too many admiring him). So for me the way to the target is the goal, not the target itself.

He's doing absolutely fine.
The concern for me last season was that the amount of pressing we were doing was not possible on a consistent basis with the squad we had.

Our pressing is now more focused and the decrease in the intensity has kept the squad a bit fresher during a season with a significant increase in games. We haven't had that period that we had last season where we shit the bed for nearly two months.
