England in India cricket tour

Most of the Indian team grew up extremely poor, sort of similar backgrounds to Suarez, and they learned similar traits of tenacity and fight and dirty tricks to succeed at all costs. I admire that. Most of the England team (well, the ones who are English) grew up in public schools and have never had to fight for anything. This probably explains their mental fragility and pathetic performances.

That bolded bit is piffle. Public schools pose their own considerable challenges for pupils (probably more so than ever these days since they're at least partially insulated from the rising tide of education regulations) and some of their alumni are at least as amoral and unscrupulous as anyone out there.

I am from India and a fan of the Indian cricket team. Kudos to Indian cricket team for their achievement and I feel very happy too. But most of the recent success have been achieved on domestic pitches. I dont quite think this team has batsmen with the technique to do well in foreign conditions.

If the series was played in England on seaming and swinging pitches, the scoreline would have been reversed.

Not sure if it has anything to do with poor background vs public schools.

No offence to @dantes but that public school stuff really is bollocks. Fair play to the Indian team on a well played game. You play to the conditions and they did well England did not. Lots of positives to take out of the tour though I think.

Fucking disgraceful capitulation, that was one of the worst, especially on that pitch which hardly turned and slowly at that. They should hang their heads in shame

I agree Tony. We know that it's tough playing tests in India, but there was just no excuse for what happened today. You wonder what got into Moeen Ali's head to play the shot that he did, which started the dominoes falling. I think it's time for Cookie to go as captain.

Perhaps he thought the game was safe and decided to use the no-pressure day to boost his batting statistics.

His recent remarks about Joe Root suggest that he'd agree with that. Cook has vastly improved as captain over time but it does now seem his time is up.

Can't help being a tad apprehensive about giving Root the job so early in his career though.

Yup I don't like to dig them out normally because if you have played the game to any standard you can understand how intense pressure can precipitate a collapse. However on this occasion the pitch was flat and we gave away the game spinelessly especially after a good start from the openers.

I expect Cook has had enough but without decent spinners we were always going to struggle. However it was the batting that dissapointed on this tour, we really should have only lost maybe 2-1 or 2-0 and underachieved. However I for one really don't want to risk Root's batting with the captaincy - edit agree with JJ there

I fear going into the ashes next year with a relatively inexperienced capt root. The ideal timing had we not been spanked in those circumstances should have allowed for a more seemless transition.

However, Cook had no clue on this tour. Very suspect collapses, refused to let Root bowl at times, so when he brought himself on he took wickets. Perhaps it is time, but i'd like Cook to stay as opener and helping Root when called upon.

But lets not be too downbeat, the vast majority of tours end in defeat in India. Its just the manner that smarts.

I don't see why the captain can't walk around with an earpiece and merely pass on the instructions of the coaching team and all those people with laptops. It would take some pressure off him, and make sure that only people with experience and intelligence take game-changing decisions.

Funnily enough that's the one thing that doesn't worry me, the Aussies are in a terrible state, I'm confident we can do them this time down under no matter who captains.

Eoin Morgan has just played a brilliant match winning innings in the Big Bash and it looked like it meant a lot to him. I think he'll have a good series now.

I don't agree at all. England proved themselves to be serious opponents in both matches so far. We scored 350 in Pune and 366 in Cuttack.

They did better in Pune, but were hopeless when Kholi put them under pressure. Today the 366 was scored when the game was way beyond them.

In another exciting game that went to the last ball, England beat India by 5 runs in Calcutta. :)

I'll reserve judgement on this one in case any reports of irregular betting patterns emerge.

Nope I just dislike their looser mentality and think they deserve to lose for it. Single player sports are a different story, different mentality. But all this dumb team cliché shit they continually spout makes me vomit. Even the Olympians now referring to team GB is embarrassing. I wish only defeat upon them. The football team goes without saying.

I think this was down to infant school. In the playground we'd play and so I got into football and Liverpool. Then the world cup was on, I had vaguely heard about Maradona, decided he was awesome, cut out the Argentina flag colours from a magazine, made a flag, and took it to school. The kids made me rip it up. So that instantly instilled my hatred of England.

Under the circs that was a pretty good win, what with the slippery ball and being a bowler down. I thought the fielding on the dewey outfield was particularly good. I watched a replay of a bbl match at the MCG at half time, it looks as if you could get 2 Eden Gardens into its outfield!
