England in India cricket tour

The first test in Rajkot ended up as a draw, although England had the Indians sweating a bit in the final hours. With wisdom of hindsight, Cookie could have won the match had he declared sooner in England's second innings.

I had a bet on India to win all 5 tests, so I have already lost my money, but am pleasantly surprised that the England team performed so well in Indian conditions, spinner Rashid taking plenty of wickets. The debut of "Baby Boycott" opener Hameed was also a tremendous positive for the team.

But a draw will look like a success. Had he declared sooner and ended up losing, he'd have looked like a total failure. This sort of fear or risk aversion comes from media pressure, and it's the wrong mindset. The media right now should blast him for letting an opportunity to win the match slide by without even trying to take it.

England were 260 - 3 so you could hardly forsee the Indians batting so badly. Why on earth give them the slightest chance of pulling off a run chase. Having the runs on the board allowed Cook to have 5/6 men round the bat applying pressure without worrying about leaked runs. No, for me what was disappointing was the Cook drop which cost nearly 30 runs and 7 or 8 overs. if you want to apportion blame ( I don't ) that was the moment

They came up with an interesting statistic on "Test Match Special." Apparently the last ten England victories over India have all come after England losing the toss!

In the Rajkot test, the England bowling attack showed a commendable resilience and continued to bowl well in the face of adverse conditions. I am hoping for a repeat performance.

In this situation I wouldn't hold it against Cook for throwing the towel in and trying to scrape a draw. So that means he'll duly throw in the towel completely and spend his couple of days off seeing the sites and sounds of visakhapatnam. Useless twat.

Hmm. We are struggling for a good #4 - or ideally #3 with Joe Root dropping down. Duckett and Ballance have both struggled to the point where they shouldn't be considered. So probably Buttler comes in for the 3rd test. Duckett's time will come again. Who would you wish to see as a squad option though? Maybe Hildreth for me - though I'd worry about his majority of runs coming at Taunton.

KP?

I think that Rashid's dropped catch, which cost at least 100 runs in the first innings, more or less cost us the game. Shame because we battled really hard. Baptism of fire for Duckett, feel sorry for him but it's Mohali next isn't it where the spinners aren't supposed to be as effective, he's only had two games so I say give him another go.

A new wonder-boy opening batsman is being flown out to India by the England management.

Keaton Jennings.

I heard him interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning. Coundn't sound more South African.

What would we do without those South Africans?

:D

We've thrown a pretty good position away here. Buttler's attack-being-the-best-form-of-defence technique shouldn't last long.

Pitch is spinning mind you so
If our spinners can do something then maybe we'll have a chance in a low scoring game. Otherwise we'll get skittled in the 2nd innings and lose by a wicket or 9/10 wickets.

Yup Jake Ball weakens the tail a bit, 4 seamers and 2 spinners doesn't fill you with confidence though. We need to keep them in the field as long as possible to have any chance, scoreboard pressure and all that. But it looks like we have let them off the hook again.

288-5 maybe isn't too bad but could have been more. Hopefully we'll get 350 maybe 400. You never know - that score might look immense at the end of the game.

The Indians were bullying the umpires to such an extent that Oxenford gave Bairstow out caught at slip when the ball had missed his bat by around 20 centimetres!

Fortunately England had one review available.

I don't think it's anything to do with being foreigners. They are just a bunch of cunts.

You can come across a bunch of cunts anywhere in the world.

Most of the Indian team grew up extremely poor, sort of similar backgrounds to Suarez, and they learned similar traits of tenacity and fight and dirty tricks to succeed at all costs. I admire that. Most of the England team (well, the ones who are English) grew up in public schools and have never had to fight for anything. This probably explains their mental fragility and pathetic performances.

Huge respect for Kohli and his teams achievements..... but some of the bitching and moaning is trying to say the least (see that whole "if we stayed in the UK for 6 weeks why do the English get to have a break mid-tour?" shite. What the fuck has that got to do with anything? Speak to the Indian Board you spazz).
