Coutinho replacements

On the topic of replacements we'd like to see for Coutinho, I would very much like to see us put as much of the fee towards Saul Niguez as possible. So as Keni asked for, here's a video of him.

He didn't want to play for him in summer, and made that extravagantly, abundantly clear. Didn't sell him then. Was his plan to woo him and give him extra-special Jurgen Hugs every day, in the hope that he would change his mind?

And at what point did he realise that didn't work? Is it measured in special Jurgen Hugs? 100 special Jurgen Hugs with no reciprocation means he genuinely just had to go?

Klopp was ready to fuck him off in the summer but Barca didn't come up with enough money. This time around they did and Klopp don't want his whole team and focus to be on the one that doesn't want to be there. It's not too complicated, but a tad more complex than number of hugs, which is why it probably got lost for you.

When we sold Suarez I was far more downhearted than I was when Coutinho was announced leaving. I was also completely certain Suarez would be a boss signing for Barcelona whereas I am not utterly convinced about Coutinho going to be that either. It's mostly a gut feeling but he does lack 'something' the little Brazilian wiz.

He is on his day, and he's had a lot of those recently, a marvellous player, with great instincts, control and technique. Will also score goals from almost everywhere. However there's still a light-weight feel about him, it's difficult for me to exactly pin-point what it is, just.. something. Salah for instance doesn't give me these vibes even though he can also look well off but never as fragile. Fragile may be the right word. I don't know.

Anyways, Coutinho is off, and we have to look forward as Keni said and I am personally not completely certain about what to do next.

When it comes to somewhat realistic targets I think I am leaning towards a Christian Pulisic or perhaps an Alexis Sanchez or a marvellous striker, with Firmino dropping a bit deeper. Keita coming in as well and he'll certainly make sure to replace some of the goals Coutinho scored and he'll also add more power and better balance but never the same amount of creativity. Why we might want to bolster with a 'heavy' striker instead and then make use of Firmino in Coutinho's position.

Also, and I know this is far fetched but there might after all also be a chance with Cristian Eriksen should Spurs fail to secure a top 4 spot. He's still on a rather low wages and with only two years left of his contract a large bid and the right circumstances may make him available. He'd be as close as a like-for-like signing that we could possibly get. Will add even more creativity to the team and works harder but lacks the explosiveness in dribbles that Coutinho's got.

Coutinho will easily be a success at Barcelona. He’s a perfect fit for them. Unfortunately.
Eriksen’s a non-starter.

We'll see mate, he very well might.

In overall terms I think Barcelona are facing some tougher years, and that could of course also influence Coutinho's performances. I just don't think he's in the same category as Suarez was when we sold him why his price tag, expectations etc. could end up playing against him. We'll just have to wait and see.

You probably right about Eriksen btw.

Phils replacement will depends on how klopp plans to reshape the midfield 2/ 3, now with Can going also. Lemar and Ketia seem to be the box to box players, so I wonder who klopp has his eye on for this dm / 3 midfielder role.

It seems most likely that we'll have to get 2 players in to replace him - a central midfielder and an option for the left forward role.

If we can get a dm in the alonso mould it would solve a lot of our problems, which phil had to compensate for.

So now it's no longer the Fab Four...

Can we refer to our front line as

Firm Man Salad

It also allows for Ox to be inserted as a replacement for either 3....

I'm sure there'll be love for Firm Man Ox...

Fel-eeep, is definitely replaceable as good as he is. He's no Suarez. BUT, the timing was badly managed by our reptilian overlords

We want Christian Pulisic accoring to Honigstein, but no move can happen until this summer

I was hoping that this thread would be high up the list and people in the know would contribute more in terms of who we maybe getting rather than still creaming over yesterdays man cuntinho in the orher thread.

Seriously...the Mahrez rumours wont go away. Is there any truth to them?. We really are short in the natural left mid position so surely we must be thinking to cover that area ?

I'd give Crystal Palace whatever they wanted for Wilfried Zaha.

Not a direct replacement for Coutinho of course, but by fuck he's going to be some player.

I've not seen much of him since he moved to Palace bar the odd game in which he looked dangerous but also inconsistent with his decision making.

He's 25 now though... so it needs to happen for him very soon.

He seems to be able to make things happen. Don't know if id splash a load of cash on him but he's doing great this season.

Zaha is a diver. Gets so many penalties

He has a serous me me me ego problem - you can tell by his body language on the pitch - I think given that he is 25 - and probably the wrong attitude for someone like Klopp to be patient enough with him to sort out the issues he has with his overall game.

Nabil Fekir. Captains Lyon... been at it for a few seasons now but looks to be stepping up his game this season. Amongst the top dribbers in Europe so far this season I think.

Any links to Fekir surfacing anywhere? He looks like he'll thrive here.

Fekir seems more Coutinho like than the much advertised Lemar to me. Lemar is more of an intelligent playmaker, wheas Fekir has much more of that edge of your seat close control that we loved in Coutinho. Don't know why we haven't seen more links to Fekir either?
