Happy for Rafa. Done a good job in a tough league and not something most top managers would take on. Bit of a hiding to nothing, but fair play. Also, having the barcodes back up means 6 pts for us next season as per.

And for any snipers/internet warriors who will just come on here to trash this post. Firstly, fuck you. Secondly, I'm happy for him because he took us to our 5th European Cup and he always deserves our respect and thanks for that. How many Arsenal managers have won it? None, that's how many. How many Chelsea managers? One. How many Man Utd? Two. How many Spurs or Man Citeh managers? Yeah that's right. None.
So if you can't be happy for him, stick it up your hoop.

Mike Ashley's Sports Direct wastes no time in starting production of commemorative Newcastle memorabilia:

Love the guy and very happy for him. Most in his situation wouldn't take on the task of trying to get straight back out of the championship but he has done so admirably.. Villa have proven that splashing a bit of cash doesn't guarantee promotion. Just hope he doesn't bring Dwight Gayle to anfield next season.

Congrats to him. Good to have them back in the Premier league.
They've got some decent players but will need a lot of investment to stay up I think.

Glad to see him back in the Premiership next season.

It'll be interesting to see how far Fat Sam finishes ahead of him this time.

It would be quite amusing - and unsurprising - if he has another massive fit about transfers and "control" and leaves in summer to join someone else.

He will not be short of offers, unless no big (ish) European club loses a manager this summer.

Maybe replacing Steve Agnew and take Boro up again?

He's done it in every transfer window

He's done it in every transfer window

Yeah, but he's in an inordinately powerful negotiating position now, idolised by every fan, and his boss is fucking Mike Ashley - who is hardly a notorious spendthrift- and despised by every fan

That's a tinderbox that comes with its own matches and accelerant, with a "Light Here" sign attached.

I'm amazed the relationship has lasted this long TBH. I suppose Ashley is doing enough tongue biting and ego-stroking to appease Rafa at the moment. He knows, as do we all, that Rafa is too good for Newcastle and he won't get anyone better. Newcastle are benefiting from Montse's determination to stay in the UK.

I'm glad he's doing well, and I'm reasonably confident he'll manage Liverpool again before he retires.

Will be interesting to see if he stays and if he can get them competing in the top flight.

Before I say anything else, Congrats to Rafa. veryone north of Leeds expected Newcastle to bounce back but as numerous managers have shown this is not a straight forward task. Rafa deserves credit for this, but if you view it another way hasn't Warnock done this multiple times? :)

I was amazed he stuck with Newcastle last season and sort of assumed it was a combination of:

  1. Ashley paid him
  2. No 'big' team showed interest
  3. UK suits him
I doubt there is any true loyalty (and I include Us) in that, UK has the highest contract rates after all.

My expectation is that his advisors scoure the elite across Europe looking for options and it will come down to an average (relatively speaking) Champions League team elsewhere in Europe vs mega-salary to keep Newcastle up

He gambled last season and it's going to pay off

The smart / next move for Benitez might be to quit in the summer while his stock is higher now, in - or spinning it as - a fallout over transfer funding and targets, and then bide his time or angle for the West Ham, Stoke and Leicester jobs, as these clubs are well funded and their managers are vulnerable (or in Leicester's case, a caretaker).

Stoke might sound a weird case at first, but that's because we get stuck with the Pulis era image of them. For these two years, Hughes has been moving the club away from that dreadful but effective physical and long ball regime.

I was under the impression that he's been given an extraordinary amount of control over many aspects of the club, more so than even Wenger was given in order to secure his services this season.

If that's true you'd suspect he already knows what he can & can't spend in this scenario & will have much less reason to throw toys out of the pram.

Yep massive congrats to Rafa. I'm chuffed because I really like the Toon (and Rafa) The PL is a better league with them in it. My best mate is a massive (not fat) Newcastle fan so I know he's celebrating like crazy. They're a good bunch the toon fans.

I was about to say how nuts that was.

However I then thought about it, & I think it's inevitable FSG will sell at some point (shortly after the TV rights negotiations are changed to club by club or opened to streaming globally by club), & if a new owner wanted to impress a large proportion of the fan base without spending a ridiculous amount of cash luring a huge name as manager then it's the obvious solution.

So maybe it's not so nuts.

Congratulations to Rafa for guiding his team to promotion. He's a proper manager unafraid of taking on a risky job and bloody minded enough to see it through. For all his faults he has a deep passion and knowledge that can't be denied. I hope he can get the resources to maintain premier league status.

Agree with everything except the six point guarantee. I can assure all that we will be lucky to get one point from them with Rafa in charge and that goes for all our rivals to.

He threw an almighty strop when he was denied the players he wanted to sign in January, one being Andros Townsend, and they ended up signing nobody.

No chance.

Aside from the fact we shouldn't look backwards, he won't prove himself at the top level for us to look in his direction again. For me, anyway.

So you wouldn't have any manager that wasn't already proving himself at the top level ?

If teams thought like that you'd never see the likes of Pep get a chance
