Salif Sane - Schalke (reportedly €8m)

Article: The Royal Blues have signed a second player to join in the upcoming season: in addition to Mark Uth (from TSG Hoffenheim), Salif Sané is set to join from Hannover 96. The Senegal international is signing a four-year contract, lasting until 30th June 2022.

“Salif Sané is a flexible defender who has experience in the Bundesliga,” explains Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel. “We’re delighted that he’s decided to join Schalke 04.”

The 27-year-old new signing doesn’t want to look too far into the future yet. “I’m really excited to become a part of Schalke 04 in the summer. Until then, however, my full focus will be on my remaining games for Hannover 96.”

Sané has made 95 Bundesliga appearances (nine goals), 28 appearances in Germany’s second-tier (two goals) and eight appearances in the DFB-Pokal (two goals) for the team from Lower Saxony. Before his time at Hannover 96, he played for French clubs AS Nancy (2011-13) and Girondins de Bordeaux (2009-11) as well as for his home town’s youth team, US Lormont. The right-footed defender has 70 appearances in Ligue 1 under his belt (four goals).

The defender, who also has French citizenship, has made 17 appearances for the Senegal national team to date. The country have been drawn to face Poland, Japan and Colombia in Group H at this year’s World Cup in Russia.

Giuliano Terraneo - West Brom (Technical Consultant)

Article: GIULIANO Terraneo joins Albion as a Technical Consultant with a rich footballing pedigree.

Operating at an elite level as both player and staff, Terraneo was most recently Sporting Director at Turkish giants Fenerbahce in 2016.

It is a much-travelled career that has seen the 64-year-old work alongside football's biggest names at some of the most prestigious clubs in Europe, his CV boasting roles with Lazio and Inter Milan.

It was in Italian football where Giuliano began his playing career as a goalkeeper with Monza in 1974. A move to Torino in 1977 saw him make 193 appearances, before his footballing journey took him to AC Milan and Lecce, via Lazio.

After playing over 500 professional games, 360 of which came in Serie A, the top level of Italian football, he laid down his gloves and began further education on his path to senior management.

He gained his Masters qualification as General and Sporting Director in the Academy of the Italian Football Federation at Coverciano, returning to Monza for his first role as General Director in 1990.

Back where it all began, Giuliano helped his hometown club win the Serie C Cup in a seven-year spell. But it was in player development where he found real success. His new role saw him launch the careers of future Italy stars Roberto Baggio, Antonio Asia, Aldo Serena and Christian Abbiati, as well as many others who graduated to Serie A.

Giuliano's fine work with Monza did not go unnoticed, and a move to another former club, Lazio, came in 1997 after a brief period with Como. His honours with 'I Biancoelesti' included the Serie A title, European Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup. He was headhunted by Inter Milan two years later as a result, joining as Sporting Director, taking ownership of all first-team market activities and talent identification.

It was at Inter where Giuliano showed his worth on the biggest stage. He proved instrumental in securing the signatures of high-profile stars; Ronaldo, Adriano, Clarence Seedorf and Fabio Cannavaro to name but a handful.

In April 2003 he was approached by Jaume Llaurado to become Sporting Director of FC Barcelona. This was dependent on Llaurado's election as President of the Catalan club, but, after Giuliano's resignation from Inter, the election was lost and the deal fell through.

Then came the opportunity for Giuliano to join Fenerbahce, his most recent Sporting Director role, where his history of outstanding acquisitions continued. Robin van Persie and Luis Nani were brought to Istanbul during his tenure.

Since leaving the 19-time Turkish League champions, Giuliano has worked as an international consultant for clubs across the football pyramid.

David Bates - Hamburg SV (free transfer)

Article: HSV are planning for the future and are starting to shape their new squad and we are therefore pleased to announce our first new signing for next season in the form of central defender David Bates, who currently crafts his trade at Rangers. The Scotsman completed his medical at HSV today and subsequently signed a four year contract at the club.

The 193cm tall right footer, who was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and played for Raith Rovers in his youth, made his debut in April 2017 in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers. The team from Glasgow signed him in January 2017 after having loaned him for the first half of the season. Bates also featured in the Europa League for Rangers but moves to Hamburg for free after the expiration of his contract as he is looking to continue the development of his career by the Else.

Johannes Spors, head of recruitment and the scouting department at HSV, doesn’t only view the 21-year-old’s move as a positive for footballing reasons: “David brings a mixture of size, speed, mentality and responsibility which is key at the back and will do HSV the world of good. He’s a down-to-earth guy who wants to develop and will work hard to do so,” explained Spors.

    Profile:
    Name: David Bates
    Date of birth: 05.10.1996
    Nationality: Scottish
    Position: Centre back
Clubs to date: Raith Rovers, East Stirlingshire FC, Brechin City, Glasgow Rangers

Mark Uth - Schalke (free transfer)

Article: The Royal Blues have wrapped up their first piece of business for the 2018/19 season, with Mark Uth set to join on a free from TSG Hoffenheim. The 26-year-old’s contract with the Kraichgau club expires at the end of the current campaign.

The striker, who was the Bundesliga’s fourth-best goalscorer last season, has agreed a four-year deal with S04, running until 30th June 2022.

“Mark Uth is currently the Bundesliga’s most prolific German forward and will strengthen our attacking options even more from next summer,” said sporting director Christian Heidel. “We’re delighted that we have been able to bring him to FC Schalke 04.”

Uth is also looking forward to a new chapter next season. “I’m confident that a move to Schalke 04 is the perfect next step for me. I’m really looking forward to tackling this new challenge from the summer,” said the striker. “Until then, I will of course be fully focused on my role at TSG, and will continue to help the club reach their goals with commitment and passion.”

The Cologne-born forward began his footballing career at amateur club TuS Langel. He was part of the 1. FC Köln youth setup between 2004 and 2007, before a move to SCB Viktoria Köln followed. He then return to the Billy Goats from 2010 to 2012, where he featured for the U23s.

The striker made the step up to professional football in the Netherlands. He spent one year in SC Heerenveen’s reserves and another on loan at Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie, before returning to play for Heerenveen’s first team. Uth scored 23 goals in 63 games in the Dutch top flight, and completed a move to TSG Hoffenheim in 2015. He has scored 28 goals in 72 competitive appearances so far.

Germany have a different set of rules when it comes to negotiating and making deals public with players who are in the final 6 months of their contracts.

Niko Kovač - Bayern Munich (Head Coach, reportedly €2.2m)

Article: Niko Kovač will be the new FC Bayern München head coach from the start of the 2018/19 season. The German record champions and the 46-year-old have agreed a three-year contract from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2021. His brother Robert Kovač (44) will join Niko Kovač, who is currently Eintracht Frankfurt head coach, as assistant.

"We're very delighted we've secured the services of Niko Kovač as new FC Bayern head coach," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić. "Niko played for Bayern, he knows the people in charge and the club's structures and DNA. We're convinced he's the right coach for the future of FC Bayern."

The former Croatia international and Croatia head coach contested 34 Bundesliga matches for FC Bayern from 2001 to 2003, scoring three goals. He and his brother Robert won the Intercontinental Cup in 2001 and the German championship in 2002 with FC Bayern.

Frederik Rönnow - Eintracht Frankfurt (reportedly €2.8m)

Article: Eintracht are on the verge of completing their first new signing for the 2018/19 campaign, having agreed a deal with Bröndby IF for the transfer of Frederik Rönnow. The Denmark international goalkeeper, who will complete his medical in Frankfurt in the coming weeks, will join the Eagles this summer on a contract until 30 June 2022.

"We've been able to reach a positive conclusion to our talks with Bröndby IF and have also agreed terms with the player," said board member Fredi Bobic, who had travelled to Copenhagen with sporting director Bruno Hübner to discuss the terms of the deal with the Bröndby hierarchy. "We've ticked off an important box by signing Frederik Rönnow. We're very happy with his qualities as a player and as a person."

Born in the Danish port city of Horsens on 4 August 1992, Rönnow started out at Stensballe IK before joining AC Horsens as a teenager. The 1.90-metre custodian was loaned out to Esbjerg FB at the start of the 2013/14 campaign, going on to make 18 appearances in the Danish top flight and a further eight outings in the UEFA Europa League.

After featuring just 11 times for second-tier Horsens the following season, he was snapped up by top-flight giants Bröndby IF, who are coached by former VfB Stuttgart and Leipzig boss Alexander Zorniger. Rönnow has clocked up 110 competitive appearances for Bröndby to date, as well as seven international outings for his country.

Anderlecht - Kristal Abazaj (reportedly €750k)

Article: Kristal Abazaj has been transferred to Belgian giants Anderlecht in a surprise move for the Albanian forward, considered one of the greatest talents of the Albanian Superliga.

The 21-year-old Luftetari striker has signed a three-year contract with Anderlecht for a reported €750,000 fee, in one of the most expensive transfers from the Albanian championship. However, three-quarters of the transfer fee goes to Albanian Superliga leaders Skenderbeu who signed the player last January but allowed him to play on loan at Luftetari for the second half of the season.

The sale operation comes at a time when Albanian Superliga leaders Skenderbeu have been given a ten-year ban and a €1 million fine by European football’s governing body, UEFA, over match-fixing. If upheld by Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport, the severe punishment calls the future of Albania’s most successful club of the past decade into question.

Grown up as a player in Albania, Abazaj is considered one of the most promising talents, recently receiving his first call-up with the national side by Albania’s Italian coach Christian Panucci.

For Abazaj, Anderlecht, a club where former Albanian international midfielder Besnik Hasi played and coached, will be his first international experience. The player will reportedly earn €200,000 a season.

“Abazaj is considered one of the greatest Albanian talents. We are so happy that such a promising player has chosen Anderlecht and I am sure he will realize his full potential with us,” Luc Devroe, Anderlecht’s sporting director, said as quoted in a statement by Belgium’s most successful club.

Having scored nine goals for Luftetari this season, Abazaj says he looks forward to joining Anderlecht next summer.

“Anderlecht is a big name in European football and even in Albania. I am very happy to grow up in such a great club and look forward to joining them,” Abazaj said.

Back in 2015 soon after their debut Europa League group stage, Skenderbeu’s Nigerian striker Peter Olayinka was acquired by Belgian side Gent for a record €1.1 million fee in the Albanian championship but failed to impress. The 22-year-old now plays on loan at Zulte Waregem in the Belgian First Division A.

Markus Anfang - Cologne (Head Coach)

Article: 1. FC Köln and Markus Anfang have reached an agreement. The 43-year-old will officially transfer from Holstein Kiel to 1. FC Köln this summer alongside his assistant Tom Cichon to begin the 2018/19 season. Both coaches have signed three-year agreements.

“Markus Anfang is a coach that manages to transfer his ideas well to the team. He has proven that in Kiel. Particularly in the second half of the season he was able to show that he can work under difficult conditions,” said FC Managing Director Armin Veh.
“We are glad that we were able to reach a reasonable and fair solution with Holstein Kiel.”

Markus Anfang is excited about his new challenge: “I am from Cologne. Nobody has to tell me what it means to work with this exceptional traditional club and these fans. The league does not matter. I am thankful to Holstein Kiel for a wonderful time together and for allowing me this chance.”

Markus Anfang was born on 12 June 1974. The former midfielder played in the Bundesliga for Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, MSV Duisburg, and FC Schalke 04. He began his coaching position at Holstein Kiel in September 2016. He achieved promotion to the second league in 2017 and is currently fighting for promotion into the first league.
