Davy Klaassen - Everton (€27 million)
DCZXrQ6XYAA1Uq4.jpg

[article]Davy Klaassen completed a €27m move to Everton from Ajax and revealed how speaking to Ronald Koeman about the Club immediately left him with “a positive feeling”.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international, an attacking midfielder, has signed a five-year contract with the Blues to June 2022.

He becomes Everton’s second summer signing, following the arrival of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for a Club-record fee earlier on Thursday.

After making his debut for Ajax as an 18-year-old in 2011, Klaassen, a product of the Dutch club’s famed academy, went on to score 49 goals in 163 first-team appearances, spending his final two seasons at the Amsterdam Arena as captain.

He also helped the Dutch giants reach the final of the Europa League in Stockholm in May, where they lost to Manchester United.

Internationally, Klaassen has represented the Netherlands on 14 occasions since being handed his debut in a friendly against France in 2014, netting four goals.

“I’ve walked around the training ground and talked with a few people and it feels good,” Klaassen told evertontv.

“I spoke a few weeks ago with Ronald Koeman about Everton. I wanted to come here and check if this was the right club for me and since I came here I feel so happy. It’s a great club.

“The moment that I spoke with the manager directly I got a good feeling. He’s an honest guy, we talked about the Club, about the way he wants to play and that gave me a positive feeling.

“I talked to him about the Club and everything we want to achieve and he was really positive. It’s difficult to leave Ajax but I think this is a good step for me now and I’m really looking forward to my time here.”

Although part of the Ajax squads that won the Eredivisie in 2011/12 and 2012/13, Klaassen managed only a handful of appearances in those campaigns.

However, his breakthrough season arrived in 2013/14 as he contributed 11 goals and three assists on the way to his side securing another Dutch crown. His performances also saw him named Dutch Football Talent of the Year.

A further eight goals would arrive in 2014/15 as Ajax finished runners-up to PSV, before he was made skipper at the start of 2015/16.

Again, PSV would pip Ajax to the title but Klaassen’s 13 goals and eight assists saw him voted Dutch Footballer of the Year, a prize previously won by the likes of Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Dennis Bergkamp and Koeman.

However, last season was Klaassen’s most prolific yet as he bagged 14 league goals, as well as a crucial Europa League quarter-final brace against Schalke.

“I’m an attacking midfielder player who likes to get in the box,” he said. “I also like to be aggressive on the field and press all the time. I like to score and create goals and I like to win.

“I want us to get better and better as a team and we will see where we go, but I have a good feeling about it.”

Koeman added: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Davy to Everton.

“He’s a player who is only 24 but has a lot of experience and is a leader on the pitch. He has already captained Ajax for two seasons and that shows you the type of person he is.

“He is hardworking, likes to press and, of course, will give us more creativity and goals.

“It is another major signing for Everton Football Club and I am really happy we have been able to complete the deal so early in the summer.”[/article]

Jordy Gaspar - AS Monaco

France Under 20 full back from Lyon

Diego Benaglio - AS Monaco (free transfer)

[article]
VfL Wolfsburg’s all-time record Bundesliga appearance holder is on his way to AS Monaco, but intends to return to the Green-Whites after he has finished his active playing career. Goalkeeper and captain Diego Benaglio leaves the Wolves on July 1st, to take on a new challenge with the current French league title holders. Over a total of nine seasons at VfL, the 33-year-old former Swiss international made 321 competitive appearances for the club and was a Bundesliga, DFB-Cup and Supercup winner.

"VfL Wolfsburg would like to say 'Thank you, Diego Benaglio'! As a leader on and off the pitch, he played a significant role in the development of the club over the years like almost no other. Diego has earned himself the right to decide as to whether he wishes to continue his playing career at VfL or move on to take up a new challenge. Diego is a true pro and we are delighted for him that he will be getting to play at the very highest level in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. What pleases us even more though is that we have basically agreed with Diego Benaglio that he will return to take a position at VfL Wolfsburg once he has finished his active playing career and that he will remain closely connected with us," explained sporting director Olaf Rebbe.

Diego Benaglio is considered a leader, veteran and club idol in Wolfsburg, who was always completely willing to serve his team and the club. Last season, during which he made just 14 Bundesliga appearances, his massive efforts both on, as well as off, the pitch were vital in VfL’s top-flight survival. In total, Benaglio made 259 Bundesliga, 27 DFB-Cup and 35 European (UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Cup) appearances in the Green-White. In 2009, the father of two children was a German championship winner with VfL Wolfsburg, going on to win the DFB-Cup and Supercup with the Green-Whites in 2015. In addition, Benaglio was crowned 'Switzerland’s Footballer of the Year' in 2009 and 2013. Diego Benaglio won 61 international caps for his country – participating in three World Cups, one European Championships and the Olympic Games in London.

"As much as I am looking forward to this new chapter in my career with AS Monaco, leaving here is very difficult for me. Wolfsburg and VfL have become the second home for my family and me. I am already looking forward to my return. VfL is and remains a great club – and my club! I will be forever grateful to VfL, the loyal fans and the entire region," commented Diego Benaglio.

Podolski, who has played in three consecutive World Cup soccer tournaments through 2014, will reportedly receive an annual salary of ¥600 million (about $5.2 million).

With 129 caps and 48 goals for Germany, the former Bayern Munich and Arsenal retired from the national team last summer.

He is the biggest name to arrive in the J. League since Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan, who played for Cerezo Osaka from 2014 to 2015.[/article]

Pierre Lees-Melou - Nice (reportedly €5 million)

[article]
On Monday, a new face will appear at the training ground at Charles-Ehrmann. Alongside Jean-Victor Makengo and Adrien Tameze, Pierre Lees-Melou will take his first steps under Lucien Favre.

A deal has been reached with Dijon FCO for one of the revelations of the season, Pierre Lees-Melou. The attacking midfielder, arrived in Nice on Wednesday and passed his medical on Thursday. There is only the ratification left to complete which will take place in time for the 2017-18 season. In the meantime, the player has been authorised by his club to train with the Red and Blacks.

A new chapter in his exciting rise to the top. Not kept on by the Girondins when he was 16 years old and measuring just 1m60, Pierre Lees-Melou (measuring 1m85 today) progressed in CFA2, at Lège, in 2014-15, whilst working during the day in a school on Cap-Ferret. Everything then accelerated for the youngster with an exemplary attitude, as his Sporting Director, formerly of Dijon, linked him up with the club. Instrumental in their promotion into L1 in 2016, he was a key member of the Dijon squad this season. Playing in 32 games, scoring 7 goals (including 4 with his head) and making 3 assists.

Mathew Ryan - Brighton (reportedly €6 million)

ryan-signs-140617-f.jpg

[article]
Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed to sign Australia international Mathew Ryan on a five-year deal from Valencia for a club-record transfer fee, with the 25-year-old keeper officially joining the club on 1st July, subject to international clearance.

Sydney-born Ryan, who had a loan spell with Belgian side KRC Genk towards the end of last season, will join up with his team-mates in July, following a break after the Confederations Cup this summer.

Albion manager Chris Hughton said, "I'm delighted that we've been able to attract Mathew to the club, and he will certainly be an excellent addition to the squad in time for our first season in the Premier League. We're very much looking forward to working with him for the season ahead.

"For somebody of Mathew's age, he has very good experience, having played in the top divisions in Australia, Belgium and Spain. He has also competed in European competition and made a number of appearances at international level."

After playing for Blacktown City and Central Coast Mariners in Australia between 2009 and 2013, Ryan moved to Club Brugge in Europe - where he made more than 100 appearances for the Belgian Pro League team.

Ryan won the Belgian Cup during his time with the club and was chosen as the Belgian Pro League Goalkeeper of the Year in both 2014 and 2015.

The shot-stopper attracted interest from La Liga side Valencia in 2015 and signed a six-year deal with the club, keeping a clean sheet on his league debut against Rayo Vallecano.

Ryan returned to Belgium for a loan spell with KRC Genk last season and kept 11 clean sheets in his 24 appearances for the club.

Albion's new signing made his international debut for Australia in 2012, and played all three matches in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, before winning the AFC Asian Cup with the Socceroos in 2015.

Marcel Keizer- Ajax (Head Coach)

[article]Ajax have named Marcel Keizer as their new manager, with the Dutchman replacing Peter Bosz on a two-year contract.

The 48-year-old has been promoted from the club's reserve team, Jong Ajax, who he guided to a second-place finish in Dutch football's second tier last season.

Keizer takes over the reins at the European giants after Bosz, who led Ajax to the final of the Europa League last term, quit to take charge of Borussia Dortmund.

The Dutchman, who begun his playing career at Ajax, has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the option of a further year.

He told the club's website: 'The conversations we had were really positive and I also feel trust from the club.

'I was setting out to lead Jong Ajax to another good season in the Jupiler League, but in football things can suddenly change.

'This is obviously a very good opportunity that I will grab with both hands.'

The club's CEO, Edwin van der Sar, is confident the former Cambuur coach is the perfect appointment.

'From the moment it seemed we would have to look for a new coach, Keizer was the choice of the technical heart of the club.

'He knows the players, the organisation and supports the philosophy of the club.

'Moreover, he showed last season with a clear style of play and performed excellently.'[/article]

Jonny Hayes - Celtic (reportedly €1.2 million)

[article]
CELTIC Football Club are delighted to announce that Jonny Hayes has joined the club on a three-year deal. The 29-year-old Irishman has moved to the treble-winners after five years with Aberdeen, while Ryan Christie has moved to Pittodrie on a season-long loan.

And Jonny Hayes is thrilled to be joining the Hoops and working again with Brendan Rodgers. Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, the new Bhoy said: “This is a huge honour for me. It is a dream come true to be part of this brilliant football club and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m delighted. It’s been in the pipeline for a little while now but I’m pleased to finally get here. I was eager to get it over the line for the last few weeks.

“Celtic have done well over the last few seasons and with the manager coming in last year he raised the level again. It was hard last year seeing all the celebrations and all the stuff on social media and you want that for yourself and to be part of it.

“Now it’s my chance and hopefully, going forward, I can create my own little bit of history and take the chance I’ve been given.”

The Irish internationalist spent three years with Inverness Caley Thistle prior to moving to Pittodrie in 2012, and he has been one of Aberdeen’s most impressive performers in recent seasons.

His last game for the Dons came in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden, where his early goal put his side ahead before goals from Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic secured the cup and the domestic treble for Celtic.

Last season, Jonny Hayes was the only non-Celtic player nominated by his fellow professionals in the SPFA Player of the Year Awards. Now he’s joining those fellow nominees as a Celtic player.

Not surprisingly, he can’t wait to meet up with his new team-mates and start pre-season training, with next month’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers looming on the horizon.

“I can’t wait to get back training,” he explained. “Once everything was signed off, I said to Tim Williamson (Celtic physio) that I was just looking forward to that first day in training and getting started.

“You can’t get away from the Champions League. I can imagine it is the reason many players have wanted to come here. Not only is it the size and stature of the club, Champions League nights and the atmosphere are a massive factor in wanting to come here.

“Whether you’re a football fan or not, everybody knows about the atmosphere of Champions League nights at Celtic Park. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a part of that.”

Everyone at Celtic welcomes Jonny to the club while also passing on our best wishes to Ryan for the season ahead.

Ryan Christie - Aberdeen (loan)

[article]Ryan Christie will be returning to Pittodrie on a season long deal. Ryan, who won The Dons Young Player of the Year award last season, scored 7 goals during his initial loan period with the club.[/article]

Jason Cummings - Nottingham Forest (reportedly £1.4 million with 15% sell on clause)

[article]
Nottingham Forest are delighted to confirm the signing of Hibernian striker Jason Cummings on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old joins The Reds for an undisclosed fee having fired Hibs to the Scottish Championship title last season.

The Edinburgh-born forward started his career in the youth ranks at Hearts but made his professional debut for city rivals Hibs in 2013.

In his first full season at Easter Road, Cummings scored 21 goals in all competitions as Hibs missed out in the Championship play-offs, and he went on to find the net 69 times in 148 appearances in all competitions.

Cummings has also represented Scotland at both Under 19 and Under 21 level and will team up with Mark Warburton's squad for pre-season.

Soualiho Meité - Monaco (reportedly €8 million)

[article]
AS Monaco have made yet another signing, this time Zulte Waregem midfielder Soualiho Meïté – who joins the champions on a 5-year-deal.

The 23-year-old defensive-midfielder has been earning his trade in Belgium’s top flight division and was certainly a vital part of his club’s third place finish last season. Meïté made 30 league appearances for Zulte Waragem, scoring once, and assisting once. He has also featured with the French national side at U16 through to U20 level.

The Frenchman is naturally a defensive-midfielder, and could be thrown in the deep end with the first team if the likes of Fabinho or Bakayoko left the club this summer.

Lee Camp - Cardiff City

[article]
Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to confirm that goalkeeper Lee Camp will join on a permanent deal from July 1st 2017, subject to international clearance.

The 32-year-old shot stopper previously worked with Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock at Rotherham United, and has signed a contract at Cardiff City Stadium until summer 2019.

Moments after putting pen-to-paper on his deal at Cardiff City Stadium, Lee Camp spoke with cardiffcityfc.co.uk, saying: “I’m really pleased to have signed for Cardiff City. The manager has always been fantastic with me and I’m delighted to work with him again.

“Having worked with him previously too, I’ve already got a really good relationship with Andy Dibble (Cardiff City FC’s Goalkeeping Coach). He knows how to get the best out of me and we bounce off one another.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Cardiff City supporters.”

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock added: “He’s what I call a ‘Steady Eddie’. Lee has always done well for me.

“We’ve now got a really good trio of goalkeepers. Neil Etheridge – a big lad with plenty to prove, Brian Murphy – who did well for me last season, and Lee, who offers experience, reliability and good decision making.

“It is down to the goalkeepers now to see who can cement their place in the starting eleven, and keep that number one jersey.”

Faitout Maouassa - Rennes (reportedly €7 million)

[article]
Stade Rennais have completed the signing of Nancy’s Faitout Maouassa on a four-year-deal. Maouassa signs after a promising season in Ligue 1, in which he made 14 appearances at just 18-years-old.

Maouassa has represented France at youth level, where he has so far been laden with success – winning European titles with the U18 and U19 squads.

The Frenchman is very much a left-sided player, with the capacity to operate further up the flank as a winger, as well as his primary left-back position.

Rennes are understood to have paid around €7m for the young defender.

Joe Garner - Ipswich (reportedly €850k)

[article]
Striker joins Town for an undisclosed yet significant fee from Scottish side Rangers and pens a three year contract

Town have made a second signing of the summer with Joe Garner joining from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old striker has penned a three year deal and follows Jordan Spence through the doors at Portman Road.

Joe started his career at hometown club Blackburn before joining Carlisle in August 2007, following a successful loan spell there.

He bagged 14 goals in 31 League games in the 2007/08 campaign, then moved to Nottingham Forest in a £1m plus deal.

The former England U19 international spent three years at the City Ground, alongside Luke Chambers and David McGoldrick, and had loan spells at Huddersfield and Scunthorpe in that time, then signed for Watford in August 2011.

Another loan spell at former club Carlisle followed before he joined Preston in January 2013.

His stay with the Lilywhites is the most successful of his career so far. He scored 49 goals in 129 League games and helped North End to promotion to the Championship in 2014/15, being named the League One Player of the Year that season.

He also bagged a hat-trick in Preston’s 3-2 win over Town in an FA Cup third round replay while at Deepdale.

Rangers paid a reported £1.8 million for Joe in August 2016 and his first goal for the Gers came in their 5-1 defeat to fierce rivals Celtic.

He went on to score 10 goals in 34 games for the Glasgow giants before agreeing a move to Portman Road.

Nabil Dirar - Fenerbahce (€4.5 million)

[article]
After a five-year spell, Nabil Dirar has left Monaco – signing for Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The deal is worth €4.5m including bonuses. Dirar had previously indicated that he was seeking a move to the Premier League, but it appears that the financial lure of Turkey changed his mind.

Dirar has been at the club throughout the tough times in the second division and enjoyed game time in the Champions League knockout stages this season.

He made 18 Ligue 1 appearances for the eventual champions in the recent campaign and certainly goes out on a high.

Wonder if this means that Oostende's young striker Nany Landry Dimata (Belgian U19/U21 - 9 goals in 13 games for the U19s) will be moving in the opposite direction, or perhaps to the French league as the next step of his development.

José Luis Oltra - Granada (Manager)

[article]José Luis Oltra has been appointed as the new manager of Granada CF. The Valencian coach will lead the first team squad during the 2017-18 campaign, along with the possibility of extending his tenure for an additional season.

Joining Oltra at the club are new incorporations within the coaching staff, including Emilio José Isierte Aguilar as assistant manager, plus Marcos Chena Sinovas as fitness coach.[/article]

Alfredo Morelos - Rangers (reportedly £1 million)

[article]
RANGERS is today delighted to announce the signing of Alfredo Morelos from HJK Helsink on a three year contract.

The 20-year old striker is a Colombian international at under-20 level, and with Finland playing a summer season, in his 19 games so far, he has hit a total of 17 goals.

He began his career at Independiente Medellin in his homeland before moving to HJK, initially on loan for last season, before his move was made permanent at the start of this year.

His season on loan in the Finnish capital was equally impressive as he netted 30 goals in 43 games, with four of them coming in the Europa League qualifying round.

He becomes the first Colombian to sign for the Light Blues, and is Pedro Caixinha’s sixth signing of a busy summer as he revamps his squad ahead of the new season.

Warren Joyce - Melbourne City (Head Coach)

[article]
Melbourne City FC has officially unveiled new Head Coach, Warren Joyce, at City Football Academy (CFA) Melbourne today, Monday 19 June.

Highly regarded Joyce, 52, has rich and significant experience both as a player and later a manager in England and Belgium, including a spell as Head Coach of Leeds United reserves, two years at Royal Antwerp, eight years at Manchester United reserves, and as manager of Wigan Athletic in the Championship.

At Leeds United, three of his players consecutively became the youngest to make a full debut in the Premier League, and during his 8 years at Manchester United during which he was responsible for the coaching of their developing youth team, 73 players went on to play in the English Premier League and Championship, 44 became full internationals, and 52 made first team debuts.

As a player, he made 884 appearances in the English League for Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End, Plymouth Argyle, Burnley and Hull. It was during his playing career that he took his coaching badges and in 1999 he became player-manager for Hull City, where he was credited with saving the Club from relegation.

Joyce arrived in Melbourne as players return to the City Football Academy to begin their pre-season training, alongside Senior Assistant Coach Michael Valkanis, Assistant Coach Joe Montemurro and Goalkeeping Coach Joey Didiluca. Speaking of his appointment, Joyce said, “I am delighted to be joining Melbourne City Football Club at this time in its evolution. The people at the club, their vision and their values together with the opportunity to help develop and build this team to its full potential, meant that this was an offer which was impossible to turn down. I can’t wait to get started.” Simon Pearce, Vice-Chairman of Melbourne City, said: “In Warren Joyce, we have a manager with a long and distinguished footballing career, who has proved himself, in many different environments, as both a pragmatic manager and a versatile, driven coach.” “His career achievements, and the many coaching partnerships he has had in the past, suggest an ideal cultural and tactical fit for Melbourne City.”

Brian Marwood, Managing Director of City Football Services, who oversaw Warren’s recruitment, said: “Warren Joyce is a manager who sees football as a way of life, not a job. By leading by example throughout his career, he has produced quality technical players, quality tactical players, and ultimately well-rounded players on and off the field. And more than that –his teams have consistently won domestic and international trophies. He is the right manager at the right time for Melbourne City.

At this transfer fee, wonder if he is expected to feature regularly for the 1st team

Wolfsburg has been busy this summer.

[article]
VfL Wolfsburg have made a new signing for their attacking department, in coaxing highly-rated striker Nany Landry Dimata from Belgian first division side KV Oostende. The 19-year-old goal-getter can play as centre-forward or in a wide attacking position. Last season, the Belgian, who also holds a Congolese passport, scored eleven goals in 24 games and also weighed in with three assists. Dimata is currently part of the Belgian U21 set-up and has made two youth international appearances thus far. The striker has signed a five-year deal with the Wolves – the details of which remain undisclosed.

Sporting director Olaf Rebbe emphasised: "Nany is a young, versatile front-man, whose potential to develop is something we have been paying great attention to for quite some time. We are delighted to have now secured his services. Landry is characterised by his extreme pace and boundless determination. He will certainly develop further still with us." The youngster is very much looking forward to opening a new chapter in his career: "I am very thankful to VfL for giving me the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga. I intend to repay that fate with performances. The move from Belgian to German football is a big one for me. In Wolfsburg I will be playing together with many top players, from whom I can learn a great deal. It’s a huge challenge – and one which I am thoroughly looking forward to."

Håvard Nordtveit - Hoffenheim (undisclosed fee)

Following the signings of Florian Grillitsch and Justin Hoogma, TSG Hoffenheim have completed their third piece of summer business. Norway international Håvard Nordtveit, who celebrates his 27th birthday tomorrow, has joined the club from Premier League side West Ham United. He has signed a contract with TSG running until 30th June 2022.

It's a transfer that Alexander Rosen has been working on for some time. "He is much more than just a strong addition to our squad on a sporting level," said the TSG director of football. "Håvard is also a big personality off the pitch. Without his willingness to make a personal financial sacrifice, this transfer would never have been possible."

The 6'2'' defensive all-rounder's decision join Hoffenheim is one that Rosen attributes, among other things, to the Norwegian's good character. "Despite having already played at the highest level in the Bundesliga for a number of years, his development is by no means over. He is thoroughly convinced that working under Julian [Nagelsmann] will be able to help him further improve his game."

The head coach believes that Nordtveit will become a leading personality within in the team in no time through a combination of experience and thirst for a new challenge. "In Håvard, I am convinced that we have found a player who will give our game another dimension. He brings with him the perfect attributes needed for a centre back in a back-three or a back-four, and can even play to a high level as a defensive midfielder," said Nagelsmann.

After what Nordtveit described as a "less than ideal" year in England, he is fully motivated to find his old level again back in the Bundesliga. "I obviously know the Bundesliga very well from my years at Gladbach and I'm convinced I will be able to make the impact that TSG are hoping for," said the Norwegian, who made 16 Premier League appearances for West Ham and whose contract with the London club was due to expire in June 2021. "Hoffenheim's playing style and Alex and Julian's extensive efforts to bring me to the club were decisive factors in reaching a decision."

Born in Vats, Norway, Nordtveit moved to Germany from Arsenal in 2009, first linking up with 1. FC Nürnberg. After 19 top-flight appearances for FCN, he completed a move to Borussia Möchengladbach, where he became a first-team regular. He featured in 152 Bundesliga appearances for the Fohlenelf, scoring ten goals and assisting a further nine. He also made twelve Europa League and six Champions League appearances for Gladbach. The Norwegian has also played for his nation at all youth levels, going on to make his senior debut on 7th June 2011. He has won a total of 32 international caps (2 goals) and recently captained his country in a friendly against Norway.

Lee Carsley - Birmingham (Head Professional Development Coach)

[article]Former captain Lee Carsley has been appointed to a key coaching role.

Carsley has been named as the Club’s Head Professional Development Coach.

Carsley will oversee Blues Under-23s and Development Squad group.

Richard Beale, Blues’ Senior Professional Development Coach, stays in his position and will assist 43-year-old Carsley.

The Board are keen to invest in the Under-23s and Development Squad and so this move strengthens Blues expertise in the development of its aspiring young players.

The Club recognises the excellent work Beale has done in helping to bring through talent such as Nathan Redmond, Jack Butland and Demarai Gray, plus last season's breakthroughs Jack Storer, Josh Dacres-Cogley and Corey O'Keeffe.

And by now appointing Carsley, the Club is certain that this will only enhance the proud tradition of providing players with high-quality coaching, mentoring and guidance, with the ultimate goal delivering them via a distinct pathway from youth to First Team football.

Carsley has a wealth of experience and last month left of his own accord a role as Manchester City Under-18s Coach, where he created a favourable impression and was highly regarded.

He guided Manchester City to the Under-18 Premier League North title and the FA Youth Cup Final.

Carsley, who grew up in Sheldon, spent two seasons as a player at St. Andrew’s after Alex McLeish signed him on a Bosman from Everton in 2008.

He went on to lead the side to promotion to the Premier League, making 44 appearances and scoring twice. He was named Players’ Player of the Season.

Injury restricted Carsley’s availability back in the top-flight and the then 36-year-old joined Coventry City in July 2010.

A year later Carsley called time on a 17-year playing career that saw two spells with the Sky Blues, five years at Derby County, 18 months at Blackburn Rovers and a seven-season stint at Everton, where he became a big favourite.

He made just short of 550 appearances.

Capped 40 times by Ireland, Carsley coached Coventry City’s Under-18s, became their Development Coach and First Team Coach, as well as stepping in as caretaker manager on two occasions.

He moved to become Assistant Manager – Technical to work alongside former Everton team mate David Weir at Sheffield United.

Carsley’s next major role was at Brentford, where he was appointed Development Squad manager in October 2014.

Eleven months later Carsley was promoted to First Team Head Coach after the departure of Marinus Dijkhuizen. His first game was a 2-0 defeat by Blues at Griffin Park.

Carsley won Manager of the Month plaudits after turning the Bees fortunes around and helped the integration process of incoming Head Coach Dean Smith before leaving south west London in the December.

Carsley got the England call to coach the national Under-19s and was later revealed as an ‘out of possession coach’ for England age groups between Under-15 and Under-21 level.

Carsley impressed Pep Guardiola when interviewed by Manchester City and was thus handed the reins to their Under-18s in August.[/article]
