Heiko Herrlich - Leverkusen (Head Coach)

[article]Bayer 04 have engaged Heiko Herrlich as the new head coach. The 45-year-old has agreed a contract to 30 June 2019. Herrlich, who took Jahn Regensburg from the Regional League to the second division within 18 months, will start working at Leverkusen at the start of July for the pre-season ahead of the 2017/18 Bundesliga campaign.

Sporting director Rudi Völler sees Herrlich as "a very ambitious coach focussed on winning who not only demonstrated his abilities at Regensburg – including the two play-off games against and nominally stronger team in 1860 Munich,". Völler added: "He favours attractive, aggressive and mobile football and a style of play that comes very close to our approach. We are certain that we will be able to make progress next season with our squad that we will amend together with Heiko. That will follow our long-term practice at Bayer 04 of working with players capable of developing."

"In Heiko Herrlich we have brought in a young and yet very experienced coach," said Bayer 04 CEO Michael Schade, "who also has a Leverkusen past as he started his playing career with us in 1989. He spent four years at the club and was in the team that won the DFB Cup in 1993 – his absolute identification with Bayer 04 was perceptible at all times in our discussions."

For Herrlich, who won the Champions League and two German league titles as a player and also worked as head coach at VfL Bochum and SpVgg Unterhaching, saw the offer from the Werkself as "a fantastic opportunity to return to the Bundesliga as a coach and at the place where I made my start as a pro. Bayer 04 are one of the most successful German teams of the past 20 years, enjoy an excellent reputation in Europe and are also considered to be a very innovative club. It's a great feeling to be back here and to take over responsibility for a team that is extremely talented and ambitious. In the coming season we want to achieve the maximum possible and return to the top group in the league."[/article]

Luciano Spalletti - Inter Milan (Head Coach)

[article]F.C. Internazionale is delighted to announce that Luciano Spalletti has been appointed as head coach of the first team.

The new coach, who has signed a two-year contract, will be unveiled at a media conference at Suning Training Centre in memory of Angelo Moratti next Wednesday at 12:00 CEST. He will take his first training session with the team on Monday 3 July.

Born in Certaldo, Tuscany on 7 March 1959, he played as a midfielder for Virtus Entella, Spezia, Viareggio and Empoli.

After hanging up his boots, he began his coaching career at Empoli in 1994 and steered them from Serie C to Serie A in successive seasons.

He then had spells at Sampdoria, Venezia, Udinese and Ancona before returning to Udine in 2002. He helped the Friulian side qualify for the UEFA Cup in his first year back and went one better in 2004/05 when he secured Udinese Champions League football for the first time in history.

That summer he moved to Roma, the start of a four-year spell in which he won two Coppa Italias and one Italian Super Cup, establishing the Giallorossi as a major force on the European stage.

In December 2009 Spalletti took over at Zenit St Petersburg, where he claimed two Russian Premier League titles, a Russian Cup and a Super Cup in four years.

He returned to the Roma dugout in January 2016 and guided the Giallorossi to third place thanks to an impressive 46-point haul in the second half of the season. Last term he went a step further as Roma finished second on 88 points. During his 18-month second spell in the capital, Spalletti averaged 2.33 points per game.

Luciano Spalletti has been involved in more Serie A matches than any other coach currently employed in Serie A – 406 and counting.

On a personal level, he won the prestigious Panchina d'Oro award in 2004/05 and was named Coach of the Year by the Italian Footballers' Association in 2006 and 2007.

Best of luck in the new job, Luciano![/article]

Jack Dunn - Tranmere (free transfer)

[article]
Tranmere Rovers have today completed the permanent signing of former Liverpool attacker Jack Dunn on a one-year contract.

The 22-year-old, who hails from Liverpool, came through the Academy with his hometown club and represented England at Under-19 level and spent the second half of the 2016-17 season on loan at Prenton Park from the Premier League side.

Dunn made eight appearances during his loan with Rovers, including in the National League Promotion Final at Wembley Stadium where he came on as a second half substitute.

Although unable to make the breakthrough into the first team at Anfield, Dunn does possess Football League experience having been out on loan with Cheltenham Town and Burton Albion.

Before his loan period at Prenton Park, Dunn spent the first half of the 2016-17 season on loan at Morecambe where he made 12 starts for The Shrimps, scoring six goals, including a hat-trick away against Rotherham United in the EFL Cup.

Tranmere Rovers Manager Micky Mellon said: "I'm pleased to be able to bring a player of Jack's quality to the Club on a permanent basis.

"He's another young player who is hungry, keen to learn and ambitious and wants to help take this Club forward.

"He's got great pace and gives us great options in the wide areas. We know the fans here love players who can run with the ball and take people and Jack is definitely one of those who will excite and get supporters off their seats.

"I'm keen to keep the nucleus of the squad together because we have that togetherness and team spirit which I want to build on further."

FC Bayern München have added to their coaching staff for the forthcoming season. Willy Sagnol will join head coach Carlo Ancelotti and assistant coach Davide Ancelotti from 1 July 2017. The 40-year-old former France international, who became a fans’ favourite and enjoyed much success during his time as a Bayern player from 2000 to 2009, winning the Champions League in 2001, has signed a two-year contract.

“Having lost two of my assistants with Paul Clement leaving during the winter break and Hermann Gerland leaving at the end of the season, I expressed to the board my wish that a new assistant coach be appointed,” said Carlo Ancelotti. During discussions, the 57 year-old made it clear he wanted a former FC Bayern player with a certain level of experience as a coach. “Willy Sagnol ticks both these boxes, and I’m very much looking forward to working with him,” declared Ancelotti.

Willy Sagnol commented: “It’s a great honour for me to be chosen by Carlo Ancelotti, one of the best and most experienced coaches in the world, and I’m really looking forward to working in his coaching team.”

Sagnol, who joined Bayern as a defender in 2000 from French champions Monaco, made 184 Bundesliga appearances for the club, becoming an Intercontinental Cup and Champions League winner in 2001 as well as winning the German title five times and the DFB Cup on four occasions. In 2009 the father of four was forced to end his playing career due to injury.

After hanging up his boots, the 2006 World Cup runner-up worked as a TV pundit and as a functionary for both his hometown club Saint-Étienne and the French Football Federation. He then coached the French U21 side from 2013 to 2014 and was head coach of Ligue 1 side Bordeaux from 2014 to 2016. “I’m delighted to move back to Munich with my family.”

"We have been monitoring closely throughout the entire campaign in order to lay the foundations for the best possible season for FC Schalke 04 in the upcoming season," told sporting director Christian Heidel. "The conclusion of our assessments is that a change was necessary in order to achieve the desired development. This includes bringing in a new head coach," continued Heidel. "However, this decision was not an easy one to make. I would like to thank Markus Weinzierl and wish him all the best for the future."

The 36-year-old Coach was previously assistant to Unai Emery with the Andalucians before taking the helms at the club’s B side in 2014, before guiding them to the second tier last summer.

Martinez enjoyed a fantastic 2016-17, guiding Sevilla Atletico to a mid-table 13th placed finish in La Liga 123, while they were threatening the top six spots until February.

The former Celta Vigo and Cadiz player will replace the outgoing Petar Vasiljevic at El Sadar, hoping to stabilise the club and mount a promotion challenge next season.

Thomas Christiansen Tarín - Leeds Utd (Head Coach)

[article]
Leeds United are delighted to announce that Thomas Christiansen Tarín has agreed to become the new head coach at Elland Road.

Christiansen joins the club from APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus after winning the First Division title last season, as well as leading his former club to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.

Prior to his spell at APOEL, the 44 year-old secured AEK Larnaca two second place finishes in the Cypriot First Division, the highest position in the clubs history.

Born in Denmark, as a player Christiansen started his career with Barcelona and also had spells at Villarreal and German outfit VFL Bochum.

With the option to play for Denmark or Spain at international level, he opted for the latter, winning two caps for Spain and scoring one goal.

Speaking about the appointment, Leeds United Managing Director, Angus Kinnear said: “We are delighted to make this announcement today as it successfully concludes what has been a thorough and extensive search, following a huge level of interest from all over the football world.

“We wanted to appoint someone who can help us create a winning culture at the club and unite everyone connected with Leeds United, from the players to the supporters, ultimately taking the club back to where we all feel we belong.

“Thomas was someone who had been on our radar from the very early stages of the process and quickly established himself as the outstanding candidate.

"We are confident we have found a man with who can work with us to take the club to the next level.”

Jordan Pickford - Everton (£25 million with add ons up to £5 million)

[article]Jordan Pickford says he is ready for an “exciting time” for him and for Everton after signing a five-year deal with the Blues for a Club-record fee.

The highly-rated goalkeeper has moved to Goodison Park from Sunderland after the first and only negotiations commenced between Everton and the north east club last weekend. A deal was agreed quickly and harmoniously, enabling talks to then begin with the player.

The £25m fee for the 23-year-old could rise to £30m depending on team and individual performances – a British record and third highest fee in the world for any player in that position.

Pickford, who has represented England at every level from Under-16s to Under-21s and received his first call-up to the senior squad in October, was shortlisted for PFA Young Player of the Year last season despite Sunderland’s relegation from the Premier League.

The keeper revealed he was looking forward to getting started at “massive club” Everton – and boosting the Blues with “match-winning saves”.

Speaking to evertonfc.com while on England Under-21 duty in Poland ahead of the European Championships, he said: “It’s great to sign for the Club. Last season was my first in the Premier League so to get this opportunity with Everton now, to be able to go forward with my career and show everyone what I can do with Everton is unbelievable.

“It’s a great club, a massive club and I think it’s a great opportunity and the right time for me to come to Everton and show what I can do.

“This is an exciting time for the Club and for me, too, with the ambition being shown. I just want to be the best I can be to help.

“I know Mason (Holgate – his England Under-21 teammate) and a few of the other lads at Everton from younger age groups and the Club’s only going forward, so it’s the best thing I can be doing.

“I remember playing (at Everton) on my first game back from injury last season for Sunderland. When I came out for the second half the fans gave me a clap and applauded then so I can’t wait to get out there on the pitch at Goodison.

“I’ve just got to show people what I can do, keep training and working hard and when it comes to game day, produce what I can do - making match-winning saves, showing what my distribution is like and making the right saves at the right times.”

Pickford admitted he was looking forward to working with Ronald Koeman, and the Toffees manager spoke of the importance of signing the Sunderland Academy graduate.

“I’m really pleased we’ve made what I'm sure will be a significant signing for Everton Football Club,” said the Dutchman.

“Jordan is a very talented young professional who also has a real hunger for success, and that's important for us as we now look to make further progress in the seasons ahead.

“We've seen the quality he has through his performances in the Premier League last season and, given his young age, we're sure he will get even better. I’m looking forward to welcoming Jordan to the group next month and wish him every success with the England Under-21 squad in Poland.”

Pickford, who made his first-team debut for Sunderland in January 2016, hopes joining Everton can help him break into the senior England team next season. But first he is looking forward to tasting European football as the Blues prepare for the start of their Europa League campaign on 27 July.

“It will be a great experience, (with me) only being young, but it’s another test for me and I feel ready for it,” added the shot-stopper. “The Europa League will be a big tournament, as well.

“I’ve got the Under-21s tournament now, which is massive for me and the group of lads I’m with. Hopefully I can be the best I can be and it can put me in good stead for next season to try to get into the senior team.”[/article]

Christoph Zimmermann - Norwich (free transfer)

[article]
Norwich City are set to sign central defender Christoph Zimmermann, 24, on a two-year deal with a year option.

Zimmermann is due to join the Canaries on July 1 following the end of his contract with Borussia Dortmund II. He was a mainstay in the Dortmund II side under Norwich City Head Coach Daniel Farke last season, and was also a regular at the German outfit under current Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner.

He joined Dortmund II in 2014 after two seasons with Borussia Monchengladbach II, and he was also part of Monchengladbach’s youth set-up.

Speaking exclusively to Norwich City TV after signing for the Canaries, Zimmermann said: “I’m extremely delighted and very honoured for the opportunity.

“I’m already counting the days to get started. I’ve had a really positive first impression, so I’m looking forward to meeting all the guys and I cannot wait to start working.”

City’s Head Coach Daniel Farke added: “He’s very big, tall, strong and powerful and he’s an intelligent boy. He was my captain of my under-23 team at Borussia Dortmund, and he fits English football because of his powerful way.

“We’re very happy he’s chosen to come to Norwich.”

Claudio Ranieri is officially the new Coach of Ligue 1 side FC Nantes, signing a two-year contract.

The former Leicester City tactician steps in for Sergio Conceicao, who left this summer for FC Porto.

It is a return to France for the Italian, who already had two years at Monaco.

Among his other clubs were Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Parma, Juventus, Roma and Inter.

Harry Maguire - Leicester (reportedly £17 million)

[article]
Leicester City are delighted to announce the signing of defender Harry Maguire from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

Maguire, 24, joins the Foxes on a five-year deal and will link up with his new team-mates in early July ahead of their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Speaking exclusively to LCFC TV, he said: “It’s obviously a very exciting time for myself. Once I had my eyes on this club, I always wanted to join. Thankfully I’m here so I can’t wait to get the season started and kick on.

“There were a number of clubs interested, but when I met the manager here, he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club. He showed me the way that the Club is going. It’s on the up and it looks very promising for the future, so credit to the gaffer.

“You can see that with the structure of the Club, it’s going to look upwards rather than down so that was a big reason why, as soon as I knew there was an interest, I wanted to jump at the opportunity.”

The Sheffield-born centre back made his professional debut for Sheffield United in April 2011 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Blades across three seasons.

Maguire then made the permanent switch to Hull City in July 2014 and played six times for the Tigers before joining Wigan Athletic on loan in February 2015.

With Championship experience under his belt, Maguire was heavily involved for Hull during the 2015/16 season, featuring 33 times in all competitions to help his side gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 2016/17 campaign also proved to be productive for the former England Under-21 defender, who made a total of 36 appearances, earning Hull’s fans’ and players’ player of the season titles in the process.

The centre back will provide strong defensive competition in the City set-up, as Craig Shakespeare’s men prepare for a fourth-straight campaign in England’s top flight.
