Boxing please

Footballers don't head the ball with anything like the force of a left hook off a 12oz glove. It's more a build up of frequent small hits that can potentially cause long term brain damage. That's something you can tackle by frequent monitoring, brain scans, memory tests, stuff like that, which would then lead you to take action at your leisure when the results point to a problem. It's very different to getting hit so hard in the head that you die there and then, without the choice or opportunity to do anything about it.

To stop people dying you either use head gear or use smaller gloves. Or change the rules to have shorter rounds, or the ref calling it off after the first knockdown. The worst culprit is definitely the gloves. The opponent has their hands wrapped up like sledge hammers, and the gloves to protect their knuckles, it gives them a free licence to put the weight of the earth into each punch, which is insane and unnecessary to knock someone out. Reduce the glove sizes, and you'll have to time the punches and catch them with more accuracy on the chin, with short sharp shots. No more of these brutal 12 round beatings to their heads.

Deaths in the boxing ring and deaths on the football pitch are as rare as rocking horse shit thankfully.

Deaths maybe rare, however brain injuries are not uncommon. If we can have headgear at armature level, why not extend it to the pros? Or is it that it will take away from the spectacle?

It's the fact it's for entertainment that makes the deaths more impactful. Far more people have been burned alive on oil rigs for example, but they were doing jobs that had to be done by somebody, and you can rationalise their deaths as an unfortunate tragedy. Boxing isn't the same, it's not a mandatory part of society, it's just entertainment, so there's no way to rationalise even a single death as anything other than totally unnecessary and senseless.

He did throw in that 8th round, almost had him out of there.

That would be the only success he had in the fight..

Fair play Yarde, went to Russia and gave it his all

Blew his load in the 8th and that was him done then. He did a weird thing similar to aj though, he knew kovalev was hurt and only a couple of punches away from being finished, but instead of swarming him, he kept taking a bit of a breather, back off for 20 seconds and then going again, just when you thought he only needed one or two more punches. Aj was the same with Ruiz. I just don't think either have got a killer instinct in them, they're massively powerful guys just like Bruno was, great athletes, just no killer instinct.

Lomachenko is going to batter Campbell tonight. The only question is will it get to the second half of the fight.

How did ref not spot that low blow that ended that fight?

Joke

That aside, Buatsi looked a bit shaky defensively.

Shout out to Cordina earlier, only caught the last round because of our match but looks like that was a brawler

More terrible refereeing.

Charlie Edwards hit with blatant bodyshot when he was down, could not make the 10 count and loses his belt.

Looks like it's now been ruled a NC and immediate rematch is on....Edwards keeps his belt.

Campbell's doing great. If he can maintain the distance he has a chance. Loma gets inside him, like he's starting to, and he'll hurt him.

This has turned since the 7th, suddenly become a much more even fight & they're going toe to toe. Loma looks a bit shocked & a bit tired too.

Loma finally got him down in the 11th. Campbell has done so well so far, but it's a bridge too far I think. Loma possibly doesn't have enough left in the tank to go for the finish that round.

Haha, Campbell very clever there to avoid that world of hurt.

Decent fight that. Campbell acquitted himself brilliant. He obv lost, but as close to a win as a loss can get considering the opponent.

Did anyone pay for the fight?

Loma outclassed him throughout but fair play to Campbell, he will go on to win the belts if Loma moves up.

Hughie fury should call it a day too, will never be half as good as Tyson.

Hughie Fury is fucking donkey and looks like he's carrying the plague.
As for Loma, just a league above.

Hughie should contemplate retirement and consider taking up basketball because he's absolutely useless with a pair of gloves on

Dubois had a waste of a camp and wasted EVERYONE’S money by fighting my taxi driver from the other day.

Canelo is moving to up to light heavy to fight Kovalev. Exactly what is Canelo eating apart from drugged meat?

The guy was fighting Floyd not too long ago, and now he's gone up 30 pounds.

Will be impressive if he beats Kovalev no doubt, but I think there's something to Golovkin's claims that Canelo has been doping rampantly. He's grown too big in a very short amount of time.
