Liverpool FC can confirm that Emre Can and Jon Flanagan will both leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer.

The club today released its Premier League retained list following the conclusion of the 2017-18 campaign, confirming the departure of a number of players in the process.

Can, who joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, made his 167th and final appearance for Liverpool in last month’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

Academy graduate Flanagan, meanwhile, departs having featured in 51 senior games following his 2011 debut against Manchester City.

The defender was a mainstay of the team that challenged for the Premier League title in 2013-14, making 23 appearances as the Reds ultimately finished second, and became a senior England international.

His last game for the club was a League Cup tie at Leicester City in September.

Youth players Toni Gomes, Paulo Alves, Mich'el Parker, Jordan Williams, Anthony Glennon, Jordan Hunter and Harvey Whyte will also depart, while Yan Dhanda has agreed a free transfer to Swansea City.

New contracts have been offered to U23s duo George Johnston and Conor Masterson.

Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks all departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future.

I like the fact that they've just sort of matter of factly included his news with all the rest. It will hurt his massive ego. Klopp should have got him in an arm lock while someone shaved all his hair off, then booted him out the door.

Not bothered about Can. Shame about Flanno. After 2014 I thought he’d have a Carra-ish career with us.

Good news we’ve got shut of that thug Flanagan, and not really arsed about Can.

We lost a big fee on him - maybe in hindsight we should have for a one off put a clause in for Juve to sign him for something like £20M. Thing is - I don't know if any Italian club actually pays that much for a player these days. I think even £10M would have helped us out somewhat.

I've never got people not appreciating Can. He was a very good player. But onwards and upwards.

He was a good player but the problem was that I don't think his best in any midfield role was VERY GOOD. As a result his performances were inconsistent or consistently average at best especially against the better sides. Pretty obvious that with all our midfield this seasons the issue was with ball retention when being pressed hard. We really have struggled in that department and that always led to conceding goals and putting extreme pressure on our defense. The front three have been our escape clause.

Yup I love this.
‘Heres all the detritus we let go this year’
No big sky breaking news, just go find a club son

I'm not sure he wasn't good enough for us. He's a good player and I think he's gonna be a big hit in Italy (look at Lucas).
I didn't like the fact that he ran his contact down like McManaman and Owen before him, hence I will not be following him in Italy and will not be wishing him success there...

Did he ever commit to signing one and then renegade on the commitment?

As far as I know he never made it clear what he was doing until the last minute. More than a year of messing people around and being oh so coy when he and his agent probably always knew what he was really going to do.
