Is Sterling making the leap ?

The leap from good to great ?

He's no Mo Salah, but he's having a great season thus far and in terms of end product he's already passed previous seasons totals.

And they aren't simply empty stats that aren't of significance. 5 of his goals have been scored in the last 10 minutes and have won or drawn the game for City.

I still think we were correct to sell and we got value out of the deal but it's possible that he's going to have a superb career.

Sterling was always a good and promising player. But he's certainly taken a few steps up this season. Looks very complete and seems to perform at a consistent high level.

He's always been player capable of stepping up, £49 million or keeping him?
I think pretty much easy choice for all. Real question, would he have stayed under Klopp?

He scored a really good goal on wed, gutted we sold him though we didn't have much choice

No - not convinced he is playing under so much pressure that his body will give in. By pressure he knows that underperform and he is out and used as a parts exchange with Arsenal if summer rumours were true. He will have to keep this up - can he do it ? - or will he break ? - I think he will break.

The option of keeping him was taken away from us but 49M or whatever is increasingly looking cheap.

I did say...

49M is about right, I would say. He's matured into a good player, but he won't be a super-star, I don't think so. There are about 7 players at Man City I'd have before him.

We did well when selling him, given the circumstances, but he's also beginning to look good value for money for City.

Arsenal enquired as to his availability re: a part exchange. City knocked it back.

49m was a extortionate amount at the time and considering we had very little option it was great value for us. Its hard to tell whether he's gone to the next level or is just in a purple patch. Plus will be interesting to see what happens if City get Sanchez in January

He's having a nice little purple patch at the moment, really bailed Pep out of a few bad results. However I'm yet to see evidence that'll he'll climb onto the Mane, Hazard or Sanchez level, and for the amount of money spent (relative to the season) that's what you'd expect from him. That said I have no doubt he'd have been an outstanding fit and success in a Klopp team.

If he was still here we wouldn't have bought Ox. The criticism of Ox is that he had no end product. It was the same for Sterling. Sterling seem to have found his.

If you had seen an interview of Henry where he described how he and subsequently David Villa were asked to play a very specific role under Pep. They were always asked to stay very wide on the left and not to get involved at all until a specific moment when they are attacking where they will get into that space on the left to cause damage. They were very successful in their roles.

I haven't watch much of Citeh but I wonder if Pep has given Sterling a similar role. Sterling has always been thick and perhaps in limiting the need for Sterling to use his brain and give him 1 specific task Pep has brought out the best in him.

This criticism of Sterling was baseless and over the top. Sterling scored 23 goals in his 3 seasons at Liverpool. Chamberlain scored 20 in 6 seasons at Arsenal.

He has since gone on to score 34 goals for City in just over a 113 appearances.

He's a far superior attacking player to Chamberlain. I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if Chamberlain manages to score 30+ goals for us over the length of his current contract.

All of this

Apart from the obvious fact that Chamberlain will not get anywhere near 30 goals for us.

I think it's a fair point that Sterling was criticized too much at Liverpool and you're right that he will almost surely outscore Ox over the rest of their careers. However, that wouldn't necessarily mean he's a better player as Ox will probably play deeper than Sterling and will be assigned more defensive responsibility.

His finishing has improved no end. He’s always been quick and tricky enough to make his own chances but with us I was never confident he’d finish them. He looks that way now though. I’d probably play that Sane before him but, nice problem to have.

He is doing really well - but I think we're seeing that due to the team being in such a great run of form ... Will be interesting to see how he performs when the team struggles to get points.

Most people knew sterling would turn good eventually, he has all the attributes to be a star. our slow ponderous negations cost us another player.

We will be having the same conversation about CAN in 2 years.

Not sure that's fair. He wanted to move to a better team, so he did.

The final year of Rodgers was so terrible who could blame him? I suspect if Klopp had arrived earlier we'd have had a better chance of keeping him.

He's brilliant. I think he was one of the few players who came out of the 14-15 season with any credit (for his actions on the field, not the actions off it from him and his cunt agent). Even for the money we got I was disappointed to lose him, but we didn't have much choice. I don't think it's a purple patch. He was very good last season too.

I still hate the little fucker though.

Really? I give a fuck. I'd be much happier if he was failing miserably, out of form and not playing

Not watched him since he left, so have no idea how he's doing. Judging by the table and the fact he seemingly gets picked every game I'm guessing he's doing well. If we weren't such a clusterfuck of a club he'd still be here.
