[article][bcolor=initial]Liverpool have supposedly made an official offer for highly rated Schalke star and Barcelona target Leon Goretzka.[/bcolor]

The midfield dynamo is widely tipped to leave the Bundesliga outfit soon, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2018 - there has been no indication that he will sign an extension at the club.

[bcolor=initial]The Blaugrana have been credited with interest in the 22-year-old for a long time now, but they could have a battle on their hands to sign him, with Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo (via [/bcolor][bcolor=initial]Sport Witness[/bcolor][bcolor=initial]) reporting that Liverpool have submitted an official offer for the player.[/bcolor]

[bcolor=initial]Compatriot Jurgen Klopp - if the report is to be believed - could been keen on snapping up Goretzka as a replacement for another young German in Emre Can, who still hasn't put pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield and has been linked with a move away from the club.[/bcolor]

It is thought that Goretzka's preferred destination is Barcelona, but both Juventus and Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested in the player.

[bcolor=initial]Goretzka has emerged over the past couple of seasons as one of Europe's best young talents, and would be a major coup for any top side. He recently shone for Germany at the Confederations Cup, captaining the side to glory.[/bcolor][/article]

Good trade that - Goretzka for Can.

Oh God. Can you imagine both Keita and Goretzka in our midfield with our attack ?

*spunk flying all over the bloody place*

Now just for the defence. Pleeeeease.

Hard to believe. If there was a chance of us getting him, it was last summer.

I still can't quite figure out what kind of player he is. Definitely a highly versatile one, but is he more of a German Milner or a German Gerrard?

He's better than anything we currently have, that's about all you need to know.

Germany chief Oliver Bierhoff has suggested Leon Goretzka has agreed a move to the Premier League.
The Schalke midfielder, whose contract expires this summer, is a wanted man with Arsenal and Liverpool long-term admirers.
Sunday Mirror Sport revealed last week that Tottenham had also joined the race, although Schalke remain hopeful of tying him down to a new deal.
But Bierhoff, Germany's general manager, has hinted he is on his way to England.
He was discussing the financial power of the Premier League, which is able to lure the top young talents from across Europe.

"We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka are moving to England and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game.
"We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches.”
Goretzka will not be involved when Germany take on England at Wembley on Friday.
Sporting director Christian Heidel told Sky Sports Germany: "We have made every effort possible, we can not do more.
"We are trying to convince him, also in the economic aspect, we are convinced that we have to look for him to continue without putting pressure on him."

Apparently he was mis-quoted/ translated on Goretzka

The word on the internet is that we have no interest in this guy...
I find that hard to believe. That would be very disappointing if true. We should always be in for top quality players, especially in midfield.

Ha. Translated as "He's not interested in a move to Liverpool, so let's save face and say we have no interest instead"

Bierhoff was misquoted by the way by the sounds of things. You can't negotiate with clubs until Jan, therefore we'd be accused of tapping up..

And we all know we don't tap up players... Oh!

Good player is linked to us; dodgy quotes attributed to make everyone believe; quotes denied or misinterpreted; player signs for someone else. Turn to the next player. It's the circle of life.

I've checked some of the German reports. The word being bandied around, by Bierhoff himself and others, is that he was speaking "hypothetically", merely acknowledging that the best young players may well move to the Prem because of the money involved. Question is whether he's telling the truth about that. ;)

It's not only Modo who'd like to sign Goretzka, old pal. It's just that he makes so much noise about it that the rest of us don't need to bother. ;)

Adding both Goretzka and Keita to our midfield would be fantastic.

Last I checked you wanted Adam Johnson.

[bcolor=initial][article]Liverpool have agreed to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka in January after the player dismissed interest from La Liga giants Barcelona in favour of joining the Reds, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon[bcolor=initial].[/bcolor][/article][/bcolor]

[bcolor=initial]@Modo[/bcolor]
Giving Modo a boner so early in the day is just wrong

Luckily, Modo has a spotless track record in player recommendation and quality, which is why 6CM hangs on his every word.

Maybe that's not quite right. Something to do with "hanging" anyway.
